It is my true pleasure to announce our next ZOOM meeting for 10 April at 2000 UTC.
The Subject of this meeting is “How to work with a broker to Buy or Sell your Amel." Included will be tips from one of the world's most experienced Amel brokers, Joel Potter.
I asked Joel Potter to place some of his Amel knowledge and his love of the brand aside for this ZOOM meeting. I asked Joel to use his experience to help you understand how to best work with a yacht broker as a Buyer and as a Seller. I also asked him to provide you with some inside information and tips on how to work with any broker. I do not think that you will find this “inside information” and tips anywhere.
If you own an Amel, someday you will be selling her and a few tips can be worth thousands. If you plan on buying an Amel, chances are you will hear advice that will be “priceless.”
Joel Potter began his Amel selling career 40 years ago in 1981. Since that time and up to the present Joel has sold Amel yachts, almost exclusively. In 2015, Joel retired from selling new Amel boats after nearly 35 years of being Amels exclusive representative for all of North America in order to concentrate on selling preowned Amel boats.
Joel has sold some Amels multiple times, first when they were new and up to 6 times as resales. Without a doubt, Joel knows Amels and he is one of the few brokers in the world that I recommend. Joel is amazingly linked to Amel and one of Amel’s biggest supporters. Joel has also personally owned two Super Maramus and an Amel 54. Re: Speedi-Sleeve for Bowthruster shaft
Thanks Bill!
i found a sleeve with the inner diameter tolerans 29,31-41, guess not to difficult to adjust the shaft to fit, then use a lip seal with inner diameter of 29,5 mm. had a closer look and found that the leak is at the other end through the screws on the lid, should be easier to fix, i just to for granted it was the shaft, will save the speedi sleeve for later Paul on SY Kerpa SM#259, Lagos Portugal

Bill,
I would like to get my hands on a copy of your Amel book. Although I own a Santorin, rather than a SM, I know the systems are very similar. Can I please purchase a copy? Thanks Grant ‘Allonzee’ SN#42

Re: Jordan series drogue.
I looked to see if I took any pictures of those chocks as I remember looking at them (and wondering what they were) while onboard Kimberlite at the dock in Bermuda but I think that I was more interested in talking with Eric and his crew about the modifications he did for the JSD and their trip in from New York than taking pictures as I don’t see any in my photos bucket from that trip.

Re: sailing from Martinique to Newport
Bob Chapman
Can US citizens enter Martinique? Actually, my wife is French and American, and we’re able to go to France as long as we travel together.
While I have an ASA 104 certificate, we both have limited sailing experience. And we would only go as a couple, so you would need to have accommodations for both. I have the week’s experience with getting my training, and we sailed in a challenging
storm from southern Spain to Gibraltar.
Could be interesting if our characteristics fit your needs.

If you joined our group to learn more about Amels and find your own Amel
#IMPORTANT
All that have joined our group to learn more about Amels and find your own Amel,
Saturday 10 April 2021 our group will have a ZOOM presentation designed just for you. One of our members and 3 times Amel ower of SMs and an A-54 will make a presentation titled "How to work with a broker to Buy or Sell your Amel." Joel Potter is known to many of us as the Amel broker in the Americas. Joel has owned 2 Super Maramus, 1 Amel 54 and has sold more Amels than anyone I know in Europe or anywhere else. Although I have not seen Joel's presentation, he has promised to share a few inside TIPS on how to work with a broker if you are a Buyer and/or Seller. If you own an Amel, sadly someday you will be selling her. This meeting is certainly worth your time. Please sign up for this meeting: https://amelyachtowners.groups.io/g/main/viewevent?eventid=1101906 Do not worry if you have no experience with ZOOM. If you follow the zoom link below your phone, tablet, laptop, or PC will automatically load ZOOM. Also, clicking on the link below will place you in the ZOOM meeting automatically. It is very easy.

I found it... That price is not a super big discount, plus I don't have an eu billing address, so I'm out.

Re: Jordan series drogue.
Eric, like Porter, I would like to see how you bolted the wooden blocks over the chocks. I assume you only do this prior to retrieving the Jordan drogue, and not prior to deployment? The other picture I would like to see is how Amel super reinforced the stern cleats on Kimberlite. I bought a Jordan drogue for BRAVA from Ace Sailmakers prior to my 2019 transAtlantic trip, and Dave P. convinced me to use dynema lines and the heavier cone material. I am pleased with the quality job done by Ace Sailmakers. Thanks for all the great advice on deployment and retrieval. Derick

Re: Speedi-Sleeve for Bowthruster shaft
Bill Kinney
Paul,
A speedi-Sleeve can be a difficult fit on the bow thruster shaft, mainly because the sizes can be tough to match. You need to put an accurate set of calipers on the shaft, and carefully measure the diameter to the nearest 0.02mm. The diameter of these as manufactured is 30.00mm, but they wear quickly. Speedi-sleeves are only available in discrete sizes, and the shaft diameter NEEDS to match EXACTLY the available sizes of sleeve from SKF. With a new shaft, there are speedi-sleeves available that will work for the 30mm diameter. Unfortunately there are gaps in the sizing. Right now I am woring on a boat with a shaft size that has worn down to 29.50 mm. There is no sleeve to fit this. To make matters worse, this is a bit small for a 30mm seal and a bit big for a 29 mm seal. My recommendation in this case was to install a 29mm seal now, and buy a new shaft from Amel. When the new shaft arrives, install a 30mm sleeve on it, use 30mm inside diameter seals, and it will never wear again. It's totally a great idea that the bow thruster has no metal parts in contact with salt water--but the wear on the GRP shaft is fast, and significant. Adding a sleeve is a good idea, but it needs to match carefully with the existing diameter of the shaft. A caveat to all above: "Speedi-sleeve" is a trademark name for the product from SKF, the big bearing and seal manufactuer. There might be others making a similar product in more metric friendly sizes that I am not aware of. If you know of such, please let me know!

I’ve changed one in harbour; very easy and compression can be achieved with 1 cm wide piece of hardwood and a rubber/plastic hammer. Use a new compression nut and keep the old one as a spare. Jean-Pierre Germain, Eleuthera, SM007
