Hi Nicolas Klene
See the photo below.
The Amel 54 has the bow set up to put a hinged wooden lift up board across.
As mentioned the lines from the Parasailor come down just where the board fits, so had to take the board off.

Hello Olaf,

That is a wonderful file that you have written about the removal and repair of the rudder of the Amel Super Maramu #376.

I have a question. Why did you not repair the rudder in place.

Secondly the wrench for the rudder nut made of aluminum shown in a blue background  ,  is not an Amel item . It was made by me .

I cut it out of 6 mm aluminum stock with a band saw and finished by hand. It is short enough that the rudder nut can be tightened while the boat is at sea.

Again Great Job !!.

Re: Location of the battery bank on an older Super Maramu

Agree with all previous posters.  Annie, SM37 has the house batteries, six of them under the passage bunk.  They are arranged in two groups of three with the disconnect in the cabinet in the middle.    Not sure who did the modification or if it was from the factory.  The workmanship looks good, like original.    The engine battery is located in the box at the base of the fwd engine room bulkhead.  Yes it looks like more batteries can fit there however that space is now the reserve lube oil and coolant storage...along with some engine maintenance items.  There is a second power disconnect above the box that kills 24&12 volt power...seems to me that would indicate the batteries were relocated after leaving the factory.  I am running all AGMs, they are about eight years old and still hanging in there.  I have and recommend 650w of solar panels on an arch and the original hydrogenerator on the shaft.  When sailing above 5 kts I never need genset, at anchor maybe every few days....with two people.  Right now with just me and the dog onboard, two refrigerators on at anchor solar tops off batteries by 4pm in the USVI.

Hey there, our 1991 SM#56 has a lot of later SM2000 features/upgrades as far as I can tell. One of them from the sounds of it is the battery setup. Under the passage bed fits perfectly: 8 house batteries, the starter battery, and solar and wind controller. That is what I would do, I can't imagine anything else for it. Here some pics, but I couldn't really open the top very high due to supplies being stored there atm...

Hello Ralf,

Please confirm these are the right pins and I will mail them out to you today.

The hatch corners I have not made yet (no one has sent me a sample and I don't have them on my boat).

I am working on a design for mast steps and hope to start making them in a couple of weeks,

Thank you,

Charles

Re: Interior finish

amelforme

At least until the end of Amel 53 production , the varnish was single component and was applied by spray gun in a large spray booth with powerful extraction fans in the floor. The applicator could work without wearing a mask or even a respirator as all the overspray and fumes were extracted. The incoming atmosphere passed through massive filters to eliminate dust and other contaminates. Around the time of the 54 production, a robotic system was introduced that eliminated the operator with no loss of quality. I can't remember if they stayed with single component varnish with the change in application.

Hi Mohammad,

Great to hear from you and thank you again for the Bamar furler, it is installed for my main headsail. Have a spare fuller packed away now.

Yes my saloon fridge is full width, I was able to see that my original fridge strut was a 300N before ordering.  Metrol in the UK have a very large selection, I am sure you can get a less powerful strut with the same dimensions from them.

I bought a Parasailor for the crossing and loved flying it, didn't need any special tuition. I made a tack system on the main furler to fly it higher, had to take the wooden seat off the bow though.

We were planning sailing The Bahamas and Florida but might have to settle for Grenada or Trinidad once this lockdown is relaxed.

I have now finished installing the S/S hatch security bars that I had made in Preveza and with all this time on my hands I have completed the install of the "Steve Neil" designed (No ForeignLand founder) motion CCTV alarm system.

Hope you can do some sailing this season.

Oliver on Amel 54 Vela Nautica is anchored in front of us, I am looking forward to seeing his lithium battery set up when this lockdown eases, my lead acid batteries seem to be only lasting 3 years. My 4x12v 100w Bimini solar panels 2x24v 280w rear arch solar panels are pumping huge amounts during the day but the batteries are run down to about 78% by 6am when the generator goes on for about 1 hour. I think I am correct in thinking that the batteries are going when the volts drop below 24v when I get below 80%? I have 12x12v 105amp hour batteries.

I was reading Bill's and others comments about fridge pumps, I did order as did Ruedi, Amel 54 #55, we each bought 2 Flojet R4105512 pumps from a UK supplier, mine seem to only last about 1 year. I am now trying a Flojet 24v 7amp instead of the Flojet 12v 1.5amp, this 24v seems to draw the same amp drain from the batteries. With Penny's stocking all 3 fridge units are working 24/7. I am glad she stocked up, no complaining now that we are in this lockdown situation.

Best Wishes and Keep Safe,

Barry and Penny

Hi Barry;

I hope you and Penny are doing well. It was nice to run into you guys in Preveza and enjoyed your company and hospitality.

Can you let me know if you have the wide lid on your saloon fridge? I believe the earlier A54s had the full width lid. On Kokomo our lid stops at the cooling box and therefore we have to reach to the left to get to the items in the cooling box. Maybe that is why the 300N struts is too strong for the later models.

Respectfully;
