I was going to do exactly that, but the wrong water heater was shipped and I replaced the water heater with 1 circuit. I would recommend that any SM, 54, 55, etc owner replacing the water heater use the 2 circuit model designed to accept coolant from two seperate engines.

I am planning to replace my 15 year old Isotemp Basic 40 liter hot water heater with a new Basic 40 that has two engine water coils.  The intent is to connect the Onan cooling circuit to the second coil in the Basic hot water heater.  Has anyone done this?  Are there some issues I need to be aware of?  In particular, I am concerned whether the coolant pump on the Onan can deal with the longer hose runs and extra coolant.  Nothing has come up in a Google search.

Hi Bill,
That’s probably a good idea, do you have pics of the installations and the parts/sources you used?

I know there’s been discussion in the past about adding a fuse/breaker/interrupt switch for the bow thruster.  Did you do that while you were at it?  If not, what was your thought process about it?

Thanks

The previous owners of Harmonie had the same problem happen with a jib sheet winch--relay contacts welded themselves shut and no way to stop it without cutting the power to the whole boat.  (On older SM's--like ours--the control box for the port side winch is way up high, inside the cockpit locker.)

Re: Drawer/cupboard pulls

Hi everyone,
I will have at least 50 of the drawer/cabinet handles from the 3D printer by rendezvous time. The rest will be ready in another week or so.
Those who ordered, please send me your mailing address and email address, confirm how many you want, and send me a check for $7.50 per handle plus $10 shipping costs.

The 3D printer has also designed, built a prototype, and tried out the latching mechanism (3 pieces for each mechanism) which he says works fine. He waived the design cost and gave us a $100 discount for 17 mechanisms which came out to be $10 each. If you want one of these, please let me know as soon as possible.

Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] Mechanics in Leros, Greece

Ian Shepherd

Hajo,

I am in Leros marina right now having my Vetus coupling changed. As others have written up, its been a very difficult job to remove the coupling from the C-drive shaft. Normally I would do mechanical maintenance myself, but this job proved too difficult without better tools and someone to help. The two mechanics Manolis and Petros do seem to be very professional and I have no worries about their abilities. They also have a comprehensive workshop.

There are two 54's and two SM's on the same dock as me, so I would guess that the mechanics have some Amel experience. I believe they charge 50 per hour for their work.

For hull work, you will not find better than Poseiden Yacht Services in Netsel Marina Marmaris. I used then last summer and another SM did the same this year after a disastrous experience in Gocek.

Leros Marina is well protected, the staff friendly and the food at Skippers is excellent.

I will ask around about the Amel experience here for you and get back to you.

Craig Briggs

Hello Hajo,

While there are some good mechanics at Leros Marina and, arguably, some better ones at Agmar Marine Lakki Partheni Boatyard (next to the airport) who will all tell you they are experienced with Amels, you will likely be better off doing the seals bearing and bow thruster work yourself, if you are capable.

Best, Craig Briggs SN68
PS They did a super job sandblasting and recoating my keel, plus some perfect stainless rail repair and I observed much more excellent work they had done. You must supervise closely lest work be done that you did not ask for and you should get everything in writing before work begins, including price.

Hajo,

Hello to you and Julia!

I do not have anyone to recommend unless Malta is in your plans.

I know that you understand you will be required haul out of the water for C-Drive service. Ans, I know that you know the bow thruster service can be done while in the water.😀

Using a continuity check, it appears the buttons on the windlass are operating normally.

I thought that perhaps the switch at the helm was the issue, but after I disconnected all the wires to that Up/Down switch the windlass ran unless the breaker was turned off.

I removed and tested the On/Off switch in the fwd cabin and it appears to be operating normally.  It turns off both legs of the DC Circuit and there was no continuity from positive wire to positive wire with the switch Off, but there was continuity with the switch On.

I would truly appreciate any thoughts or suggestions.
