I don't think I'd go with 55psi.  I've had both 25psi and 40psi ParMax 4's on board for the past seven years.
They are not super-long lived (but then again, they get ~lots~ of hours on them) and they don't like continuous duty (definitely not for 15 minutes straight).
Having said that, I can certainly recommend them because they are widely available, relatively inexpensive and a breeze to swap out with those snap fittings.

The 25psi experienced some notable flow rate drop when using more than one day faucet, but the 40psi model remains pretty steady in the shower with the washing machine going and another tap in use.

Re: Zoom meeting with Olivier Beaute

I think that Olivier's reply is much like a reply from other highly experienced people. Most people with many years of  experience have a small percentage of experience with Lithium and will offer advice based on their vast experience, which is what we should want from a highly experienced person. Additionally, almost all of us group all lithium solutions into one category. When the question was posed to Olivier, it was a "lithium" question, rather than a specific lithium battery type or chemistry. I really appreciate a highly experienced reply to a question.

Regarding the weight discussion, I will add that I believe as you add and use freshwater on your 55, you may redistribute weight more than changing your batteries from AGM to lithium. It could possibly be significant if you plan to compete in a race.

I also believe that the choice of changing to lithium is a choice that is made more on assuming certain risks than based on tried and true experience. History has many examples of risk-takers proving new technology, as well as risk-takers making fatal mistakes.

I will also add that I believe statically there is not enough data and experience to predict the safety and effectiveness of any lithium solution, therefore a lithium solution requires assuming certain risks.

I hope my non-answer makes some sense. I also hope that this does not turn into another 80 post debate as we have seen before on this subject.

Thank you Bill

I missed the meeting. My boat was surveyed by Olivier last October but I pretty sure that I will learn again looking at the video

Re: Bilge pump activation switch

I took a piece of copper tubing just big enough to fit over the switch toggle, and crimped it with a pair of pliers. I flattened the other end and drilled a hole through it to attach the float string. It has worked flawlessly for 7 years. Not pretty, but heck, it's in the bilge and it works.

I don't know if you were in the meeting during the overtime portion, but Olivier agreed to come back in 4-6 months for an Amel Question/Answer session. We will figure out a way to get questions in advance of that meeting so that we can make the best use of time.

Re: Main outhaul travller

Nick,

I think you are referring to the main boom outhaul shackle. This shackle is one that was modified by Amel, is available from Amel, and if you go see David Waters in his shop there in Antigua, he can repair yours or make you a new one.

I have had a look on the Antel website to see if I could find a part numbers but looking at ANTAL's website http://www.antal.it/eng/4110SH_en , using the correct part number, which  I believe to be Model #4110/SH, the car looks very different from the one on my boom, so I guess it has been updated. If this is the case, any ideas where I can try and source these small parts, I have tried Defender, ebay and a few other searches but to no avail.

Description:

All,

It is my great pleasure to announce that Olivier Beaute will present at our first ZOOM Meeting of 2021. It will be held on 16 January 2021 20:00 to 21:00 UTC. Details:

Many members of the Amel Yacht Owners Group trained on their new Amels with Olivier in La Rochelle. Many of us relied on Olivier as the manager of Amel SAV. And, a substantial number of our Group have used Olivier's surveys when purchasing their pre-owned Amels. As most of you know, after a long and successful career with Amel, Olivier Beaute went into the survey business and established ATLANTIC YACHT SURVEY.

The topic of Olivier's ZOOM Meeting will be "An Amel Survey." His presentation will last about 30 minutes with 30 minutes for questions. Tilo Peters will monitor, queue, and ask Olivier your texted questions.

This meeting will be very good for all of our members.
  • Members who own an Amel will someday face having their Amel surveyed. These members will be interested in how to maintain and prepare their boat for a survey and some of the common things that are overlooked by Sellers in preparation to sell their Amel. This will be important information to know in advance of a survey.
  • Members who are searching for an Amel will need a survey to complete the purchase. These members will enjoy learning more about the survey process, especially the Olivier Beaute survey process. This should be extremely valuable.

I suspect that this meeting may book to capacity and urge you to register soon.

SeaFlo is generally quick to fail Chinese-made.
I’m sure other pumps are made 8n China, but SeaFlo is made to a price point..... Do some research on reviews of the different brands.

1. Is there another pump you have experience with that you would recommend?
2. Given the old FEIT/AMFA pump was 15/30, should I even consider the Aqua King with set cutoff PSI of 55?

Re: B&G autopilot installation

I really like the install in your Sharki. I think it is perfect and gets rid of the chain-drive noise. That looks like the Jefa 150 KgM autopilot direct drive unit type I. I think a Mango or SM will need a Jefa 3600 Nm (375 KgM) autopilot direct drive unit type DD2 (12 or 24 volts).
