Standing rigging on 54
Further to my email below, ACMO just sent me an email explaining that they provide a specially made product with the same pin sizes as the old so it is a case of just swapping the stays over. Kind reg

Standing rigging on 54
Further to the news that the Amel 54 should have 12mm aft lowers not 10mm and that the intermediates should be beefed up from 8mm to 10mm. I am now seriously working this out. On the face of it I can

Amel 54 Standing Rigging and changes to the Mainmast Lower and Intermediate Shrouds
Amelia AML 54-019 2006 has 10mm lowers and 8mm intermediaries. This is annoying as when I bought the boat in 2017, I had all new standing rigging made. Food for thought..... Nick

I take issue with the comment about wide sterns in following seas. Actually a wide stern is what you want on a run or broad. It is called “powerful quarters”. The pinched in stern of IOR vintage might

Bow-thruster
Hello all, Eureka! The leak was not the Bow Thruster after all. I got in there this morning whilst underway having wiped it all dry. There was 10 knots of breeze and we were sailing nicely at 6 knots.

Hi Cortney, Yes I put the pin in unless I am literally going round the corner. I will be sailing tomorrow in quite light conditions. So assuming there is no spray I will open up the for-peak and take

Whilst sailing I have noticed that a small amount of water leaks in from the bow-thruster. It harmlessly drains to the main bilge. Even going up wind in rough conditions it is probably only a litre or

Rope kicker on 54
This is Amelia’s set up while running free and also the eye at the base of the mast. I find I do not need the kicker whilst the main is sheeted in. AML 055-019 sailing in the Western Med Nick

Absence of boom-kickers on a 54
On Amelia we have the rope kicker. I use it as a preventer to the forward lifting chainplate when sailing off the wind. Or as a kicker to the mast base. Upwind it is not needed as the main sheet track

Hello fellow Amel owners, I was surprised to see a salt water drip, actually quite a big drip from the aft end of my Onan generator. With only 80 hours on it! There is a small pin hole on the weld but

Some time ago I was asked if Amelia an Amel 54 Hull number 019 had the beefed up bow fitting onto which the forestay is attached. The answer is it is 10 mm. So yes. Regards to all, Nick, ready to leav

I have two Rutland 1200’s on Amelia and two 275w solar. For the money the solar payback is a no brainer. Money well spent. As for the WG’s. The payback is poor and although the blades are silent there
