They usually place their policies with Swiss Life (although they may have
changed with time) and I found them reasonable and very knowledgeable about
Amel boats. I did insure my boat with them, but this dates back a couple
years so one never knows for sure.

Subject: [Amel] Super Maramu insurance, Atlantic crossing and Caribbean?

Hello,
I am new to the forum, and I am (hopefully) in the process of purchasing a
19 year old Super Maramu.
We are heading from Europe to the Caribbean next fall, and my current
insurer is quite crazy on the cost of insuring this boat.
Paying around EUR 7.000 per year is way over the limit for me (this is from
Pantaenius).
Who can tell me of a good and reliable insurer, and give an indication of
the cost for the Atlantic/Caribbean coverage?
I expect the insured value to be around 200-250.000 EURO.
There must be an insurer specialized in Amel boats, maybe a french one?
Merry christmas to all.
Niels

Jean,

Thanks for posting the information about Assurances Maritimes. I previously had insurance with Allianz UK. Unfortunately Allianz changed their minds about our planned route from Malaysia to the Med and refused to cover us once we departed the western coast of India...not just for piracy, but refused coverage completly until we arrived in the Med. I was extremely frustrated by this because when we wrote with Allianz 1 year ago we gave them a 3-year itinerary including this area.

We found the policy offered by Assurances Maritimes competitive and straight forward. We dealt with Françoise GODINEAU in La Rochelle via email at fgodineau"at"assurances-delassee.com. He claims that they give a preferred rate to Amel owners. Our new coverage area is "around the world" from 60 North to 40 South with the only exclusion being US territorial waters (they have probably experienced US lawyers). The policy includes hurricane coverage with certain stipulations for mooring and/or docking.

BTW, they have a office in the Caribbean at St. Jean Bay, St. Barths +33 (0)5 90 27 83 70

Best,

Bill

I am glad to have been able to help.

Eat a few good satays on my behalf in Malaysia.
