My Yanmar manual recommends to use the stop button while cranking to keep the engine from starting if it has not been used for a prolonged period and warns that failure to do so could harm the engine. However, when I hold the stop button in the key (in cranking position) seems to override it and it starts normally (and very quickly). The engine stops correctly when using the stop button during normal operation and there are no other operating problems. Is this normal for this era boat (2004 SM #429)? Is there any problem using the manual shut off to achieve this (e.g. having to bleed the injectors after doing it) .
