[Amel Yacht Owners] A couple questions

Pat,

 

We have a propane Magma Grill and have used it (when anchored) in 20 knot winds. We love it. We have had no problem keeping it lit.

 

We both get seasick and have found the best medication, with no side effects for us, is Stugeron. Outside of the USA it is sold over the counter. In the UK, it is commonly used to treat nausea for pregnant women. My point being, it is quite safe to take.

 

I use it sparingly. I usually take some when I know we are going to get a blow and due to it not having side effects, I have my wits about me.

Many sailors while in the USA will order it from Canada. It is very inexpensive.

We are debating about taking along our propane grill , its hard to keep lit in all but calm conditions , we like to grill , but do not want to haul it down if we can not use it , I do not want to deal with charcoal. Good morning Jean Pierre,

I have the Magma Catalina Infra Red.
They recommend to attach with 2 supports, I used 3 (I can send you pictures if you wish).

I purchased a 10 lbs propane tank and regulator especially for it which I attached outside.
I also have a bag (attached on the rail) with several 1 lb propane) in case the 10 lbs tank goes empty.
I put a few more 1 lbs tank into the propane compartment.

I purchased it as I did not want to use the oven inside the galley and create more heat in an already hot climate.
All together I thought it was quite expensive, but I am happy of my purchased.

In my case (could be particular to the Infra Red version only - don't know) if windy, then it doesn't stay warm, so I have to block some of the air intake...
I don't know if Mark has the Infra Red or the other one.


Just as a side line. I flew aerobatic for 14 years, when I took passengers I made sure they ate (bread, bananas, etc.) on the way to the aiport.
Empty stomach will increase sea sickness. So make sure you have a full stomach. Liquid will be bouncing arround and not good.
I have never been see sick, but one day during my 106 class, the waves were getting bigger and the other 2 student got sea sick and I felt I was next.
So I went down and make myself a couple of sandwiches and I was fine.
If bad weather is expected I take Dramonime as prevention.

Hello Alexander,

We have 2 things in common: BBQ's and Aerobatic flying... decades ago in the military.

Still use the BBQ but my passengers might not approve of my aerobatic skills... so I try to avoid them.

Some nasty people say I can never really avoid aerobatics... :-) They are just nasty as I know I'm talented!

winds. We love it. We have had no problem keeping it
lit.  We both get seasick
and have found the best medication, with no side effects for
us, is Stugeron. Outside of the USA it is sold over the
counter. In the UK, it is commonly used to treat nausea for
pregnant women. My point being, it is quite safe to
take.  I use it sparingly.
I usually take some when I know we are going to get a blow
and due to it not having side effects, I have my wits about
me.Many sailors while
in the USA will order it from Canada. It is very

I have never been see sick, but one day during my 106 class, the waves were getting bigger and the other 2 student got sea sick and I felt I was next.
So I went down and make myself a couple of sandwiches and I was fine.
If bad weather is expected I take Dramonime as prevention.

Eric, Probably land in the BVI, hang there a couple weeks and then over to St. Martin to buy a new AB aluminum dinghy, cheaper down there than here. From there everywhere down to Grenada and back to the Chesapeake in April. Thinking about coming back up through the Bahamas and have been thinking of asking the group's opinion whether there is enough water depth or do you have to be on your toes every minute worried you will run aground.  Pat

They both have three weeks off work , so we have time enough to sail straight to St.Martin , spend a couple days pick up the new dinghy and sail back to BVI , so they can depart Charlotte Amalie . I expect to be at Simpson Bay Yacht Cub (probably dock C near the end) about November 9 till ?? then on to Santa Marta Colombia Panama then back to SBYC for the CCA Gam and then back to NY in May.
