[Amel Yacht Owners] Bow thruster repair

I do not have the sizes of the lip seals as I am not on the boat.

However there should be a lip seal at the top of the bow thruster trunk.

Also 2 foam seals and 2 neoprene seals neoprene outside and foam inside. Additionally there should be a lip seal behind the thruster propeller.

 

I know I have seen the sizes listed here on the site.

I have a copy of an order that I made for the entire boat but I did not specify which was which on the order..

I suggest you look at the site.

 

I am sure Bill who is on board will give you the sizes later this morning.

An other question there should be a lip seal where the bow thruster shaft pass the hull, but as the hole is large enough for putting tape on the shaft when lowering it when in water, Can that lip seal do any good?

Good morning Paul,

For the Bow Thruster:
You know you will need the 3 neoprene seals from Amel (2 of 1 type, one of another).
3 bearing: 6006 JEM (Open Bearing)
1 seal: 30 x 42 x 7 (plane more than 1, as I broke 1 when I put it on not well the first time). This is the one where the propeller is.
1 seal: 60 x 80 x 12 (that goes inside the boat in the forward cabin).
O ring 78.00 x 3.00
O ring 40.00 x 2.50
Somehow on my list I have a bearing: 6204 2 RS JEM (but I think this is at the top for the electric motor, never replaced it).

I am with you on the 60 x 80 x 12 seal.
After 10 months my bow thruster starts to leak.

Alexandre when you re balanced your boat, roughly how much weight did you moved forward to achieve the  2 inch lift of the bow? I have the opposite problem my bow sits very high above water ca 10-11 inch between the red water line and the water level in the bow and the water line just at the water level at the stern. I did not help to put the very elegant but heavy solar arc from Emek marine at the stern. I also list at least 2 degree to port so need to re balance part of that as well, probably not very easy.

Hi Paul,

We have the same problemsbut to a lesser extent it appears; we raised the waterline to achieve a reasonable forward/aft balanced look.  However, the execution was …..

We only list 1 degree port list but we are level when the fuel tank is full.  However, I moved all my lines to the stbd forward lazarette as well as the spare bow anchor with its chain and rode.  We also have our stern anchor with chain etc in the stbd side of the aft lazarette.  Seems to be ok for us.

Most welcome for the photos, but the credit really goes to Gary Silver then Bill Rouse who wrote then updated the procedure.

10 to 11 inch!!! Wow! I think it is definitely better to derease brow thruster leaks,
But may be if you lower 2 inches would be good.
I don’t remember how much weight, but all I could…
I use to store engine oil on the starboard side of the bilge near for forward head, also had oil store under the floor of the forward cabin, scuba weight.
Also had book in forward cabin, etc.

In order to cancel the listing to port, I also put everything on the starboard side (now actually losing 0.5 degree to starboard).
I only have 12 batteries, so behind made some opening and store oil, etc.
