[Amel Yacht Owners] Gyro +

Hi you need to put the unit away from ferris / metal elements. After installing swing the Autohelm compass. The manual will describe how to do it. If the unit being installed is just the GyroPlus, it is only a rate of turn device, and is not a magnetic sensor. It does not care about the local magnetic environment.

The primary requirement is that it be mounted within 10 degrees of vertical and it is recommended that it be at least 20 inches from radio receivers and 9 inches away from any compass to avoid interference with those devices. So do not plan on installing it right next to your fuxgate compass. Bill Kinney Harmonie, SM160 Port Canaveral, Florida

Yes, Bill...I think Captain Pillar was thinking about the Fluxgate Compass. Paul, I have a S3G. I originally had a 400SG. Both of those have internal gyros. I would recommend that you install your S3G because you will find that it is much better than previous models...then keep your 300 as a spare and only worry with that separate gyro if your S3G fails. You will like the way the S3G handles either the chain drive or the Linear drive. Bill BeBe 387 St. Lucia...Marigot Bay On Sun, Mar 20, 2016 at 1:57 PM, Bill Kinney greatketch@...
