[Amel Yacht Owners] Re: Hull Identification Number

Unless that boat was originally sold to North America and probably the USA in particular, it generally would not have a HIN as European governmental registration agencies used the yard build number until about 1986. The HIN was created by the United States Coast Guard and is a 12 to 15 element imprint/engraving, usually on the upper starboard part of the transom. On most Super Maramu’s the number is at the starboard aft end of the rub rail, tucked up in the upper corner of the area where the hull sides meet the transom.
If you need a HIN, you can apply to the USCG to get one. Not difficult if you can prove you own the boat.

Thank you
Doesn't have the HIN number anywhere. I have all the paper work. Will contact the USCG see what they can do.
Thanks again,

My 1985 Maramu has a stainless plate at the top of the companion way leading from the cockpit that list the year it was built and the number 173. I assume that's the hin. Bob SV Chara On May 10, 2016, at 10:13 AM, 'Joel Potter' jfpottercys@... [amelyachtowners] <amelyachtowners@...> wrote:

Hello Bob. That is the builders hull number, not the HIN. The plaque at the companionway is the AMEL SHIPYARD build number. If the boat has an HIN, it is at the transom or the starboard area where the hull meets the transom. Joel THE EXPERIENCED AMEL GUY 954-812-2485 On May 9, 2016, at 7:21 PM, bob Sarff bob.sarff@... Thanks Joel. I guess I don't have one then.... There's nothing on the transom. My US coast Guard document lists the IMO as 173 so I've always assumed that was out hin. Bob On May 10, 2016, at 11:37 AM, Joel Potter jfpottercys@... [amelyachtowners] <amelyachtowners@...> wrote:
