I'm sure others must have had problems similar to this. I've attached a couple of photos that highlight the issue. This is not a one-off but re-occurs every few years. I'd really like to get to the bottom of it but haven't managed to find any info in the forum. Hull # SM356, issue to port and starboard aft. Expansion issue?
Your pictures are a bit too close to get a good perspective with respect to the deck. However, it looks like some water has seeped in to the steel backing plates of your aft stanchions and they are expanding as they rust. You'll have to cut them out, replace and reglass. Simply patching the crack will not stop the rust from continuing to bloom and expand - the crack will open up again.

Your latest picture is better and it does not look like the cap rail below the stanchion at all, which was my first take. The picture is still not quite definitive, but looks like the gutter material is split, per Joel's observation. I'll step out of the conversation as my Santorin has a rubber gutter that can't split like that. Perhaps your SM has a rigid gutter.
