[Amel Yacht Owners] Salvage 1989 Maramu Announcement

christian alby <calbyy@...>

sorry to hear about the (promised ?) demise of your boat.
happens in winter, (3 major fires in french ports since Nov-2016)  boats left with mains line feeding boat & boat left unattended.
So as port masters issued notice that boats left unattended (nobody on board or no regular Watch provided) are disconnected from shore supply after 48 hrs ...

Several Maramu's advertised now in Western Mediterranean, going at an average of 80 KEuros asking price (count on minor 10 K ? work to be done).
a few are sold at lower prices (60 to 70 K) but call for more work as left abandonned by ageing owners, not sailing any longer, calling for too high a price for 'would be round the globe sailors', & still paying port charges & insurance yearly.

hope you find buyers for you boat & get back on the water soon

Hi All,
My non-repairable fire damaged Maramu is now being auctioned off to the highest bidder by the insurance company. If you need everything but the (damaged) hull including a new 75HP Yanmar, all rigging except the parts that were toasted, spars with rebuilt furling motors, new electric panels and a mile of new wire and lots of spares then this might be for you. Ask Joel if the parts on this 1989 will fit on your boat. The salvage company's website is www.certifiedsales.com and they have a way to bid online. I am posting this in hope that a Maramu owner will be able to use the parts and then sell the hull as a liveaboard or destroy it and make the boat unattractive to someone who will do the cosmetic repair and sell the boat to a new sailor who will get injured or die when the rig fails.
Working hard to make enough to buy a new (TO ME) Maramu!
Best Regards,
Ross in NY

Hi Christian,
Thanks for your reply and concern but I would like to clarify... the insurance company owns the boat
(they payed off my policy and took my boat) and I'm not trying to sell her. By posting on this site
I'm trying to get someone who needs the sailing components to buy her so that some "boat salvage
and restoration" person or company does not get the chance to do a cosmetic "repair" and get
somebody hurt or dead. If the boat is stripped of the sailing stuff then it cannot be sold to be used as
an Amel Blue Water Sailing Machine ... only a liveaboard or scuttled and maybe part of an artificial reef.
The best to all you living the dream....,
Ross

Ross,

That is a noble cause.

I know of a Super Maramu that was totaled twice and cosmetically repaired on the first occasion...and is currently listed for sale as a quality built Amel that can cross oceans safely.

too far & too late (finished refurbishing) for me  but hope you will find someone eager to recondition or cannibalise the boat.
understood the concern, just hoping to see you on return to the 'nomads of teh sea' soon.

Thanks, Ross.

That is the RIGHT thing to do because there are people out there who will patch unsafe boats and sell them without disclosure.

I am familiar with more than one Amel that this has happened to and there is a Super Maramu on the market now with cosmetically repaired cracked bulkheads.
