[Amel Yacht Owners] Dive Compressor location suggestions.

sailormon <kimberlite@...>

HI,

You did not identify what model boat you have. However, if it is a Super Maramu, the factory mounted it in the port cockpit locker.

Also, looking at the plug on the compressor it seems to be a 220 volt compressor. On my AC panel there is a circuit breaker for the compressor. If I am not mistaken the outlet in the stern locker is a 24 volt outlet , used to inflate your dinghy.

Subject: [Amel Yacht Owners] Dive Compressor location suggestions.

I’m wondering if the group has suggestions for the location of a dive compressor.

There seems to be a plug in the starboard side aft lazarette, but that puts a lot of weight in the aft, and negates the ability to mount the outboard in the laz.

Delos seems to have it in the engine compartment: I guess they took apart a Bauer.  I have yet to see if it would fit.

I’ve also thought of removing the rather innefectuar dryer and install it forward.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

Greatly appreciated.

Porter

Hello Porter,
I have my Bauer compressor in the middle  of the lazarette, fixed with 4 lines at 4 points. I have to wind it up with the halyard and electric winch on the deck for filling up the tanks. So the compressor has a good ventilation to cool and the airinlet is protected from CO/CO2. The compressor is in the lazarett a deeper place of the boat and I can use the cockpit for other things.I would never remove anything or the dryer installed by Amel.
If you do not use your compressor on sea or daily , I am very satisfied with my solution.

Safe sailing and diving to all Ameliens.

Porter,

I think the receptacle that you see in the aft lazarette on your 54 is 24VDC receptacle to accommodate a plug from a dinghy inflation pump.

Amel mounted the Bauer dive compressor for a SM and the 54 in the cockpit lazarette, which as you know is valuable space.

If I were you, I would remove that clothes dryer in the forward head and mount the Bauer dive compressor there. The Amel installed 220VAC dryer amperage
should be close to the amperage of the Bauer Junior. The 2hp Junior draws about 12 amps at 230VAC. That should be close to the amperage of your dryer.
You will want to research rubber dampening mounts, and might consider having a wood panel enclosure made.

Our SM has a Bauer compressor fitted in the cockpit port locker and yes it is 220VAC.

Ours is also installed in the big cockpit locker, on sliding rails. I would be very wary of installing the compressor inside anywhere. It needs lots of airflow and generates a lot of heat. Since it needs fresh air to compress, make sure you add a snorkel to it if it’s in any smelly space (engine room, head, etc).

The compressor has been one of the most wonderful “surprises” our Super Maramu came with. It’s let us dive in some magical places, clean the hull as needed and save bow thruster props and children’s toys... it wasn’t even on my “list” when looking for SeaBean!

Cheers,
James.

Hello Porter,

Here is where it is located in the SM2K.
I don’t remember enough of the 54 Cockpit storage to see if it fit.

Thanks Eric.
Sorry, the boat info was tiny and hard to see under the photo, but it’s a 54-Hull 152.
I do think there is a 230 outlet in the aft Laz port side on a ledge there.
I will check to make absolutely certain it’s not a 24v.
Where is the 230 outlet in the cockpit locker?
I appreciate your help
