Amel SM 2000 in the UK

Mark Barter

I have been lurking on this site for a few weeks now because I am almost sure that my wife and I want to buy a Super Maramu 2000.

I say almost sure because we haven’t actually seen one yet in the flesh. I have watched and re watched many boat tours on YouTube but we would really like to see one for real before we commit to searching for one.

If any SM 2000 owner is in the UK would you mind if we came and had a look? We would be very grateful. Many thanks in advance.

Hi Mark

Our SM 2000 is not in the UK but a Ryanair flight away from the UK, near Perpignan, if we can help.

Hi Mark & Nicky,

I’m in a similar position, based in the UK and interested in purchasing an Amel, not sure of the exact model yet but likely a SM.

I’m almost 100% sure that there are no SM's here in the UK.

There are a couple of Maramu’s for sale in London and here in Scotland there is one Amel, a Maramu called Clova based at Ardfern marina. Clova is available for charter through Argyll Yachts.

You’ll be totally amazed when you finally get on board an Amel. They are built like tanks :o)

Your best bet would be a wee trip to the South of France where there are lots of Amel’s on the market and you can see and compare the range. I was initially looking at a Maramu or Santorin but when you get on board a SM, the extra space really impressed me!

Good luck with your search.

Best wishes,

Scott

Hi Mark and Nicky

My SM 2000 is also an Easyjet flight away in Kos.  She is for sale owing to an injury (otherwise I’d be sailing her now!) and on the hard - so you could see the super-safe underwater configuration too. I was once saved from a ‘cruiser-racer’ which lost its unsupported rudder mid Atlantic and so can attest to the wisdom of the skeg, and in 5 years sailing Guma never experienced anything wrapping around the prop, sited in a great protected place and furnished with a spurs rope-cutter.
Yep, like everyone else on this site I have drunk the Kool-Aid - but it’s all true! Amels are great, and the SM2000 is probably the best they ever made - before Henri's influence dwindled.

Kind regards

Keith (SM2000 261 GUMA)

Mark and Nicky,
Two years ago I was in a similar situation, except I was in Australia.  I organised to see a range of boats with the Amel specialist broker Michel Charpentier. I flew to France and spent a week looking at Amels. Michel was a great help, and the visit cemented our thinking about which brand of boat to buy.

We bought an Amel 54 in Italy later that year, with the help of Michel and surveyor Olivier Beaute. We are really delighted with the boat.

I really recommend you get over to France and look at a number of boats.

For what it’s worth, we’ll be wintering Stella at the end of this summer in Ardrossan, but won’t be there till September. If your still “lurking”, then you’re welcome to take a peek 😎

cheers

Hi Dean,

I’m based in Aberdeen, so not so very far from Ardrossan :o)

I’m looking at buying an Amel and would love to pick your brain over a beer or two when you arrive back in Scotland for the winter!

Best wishes,

Scott

Whereabouts in North Wales are you?

We have a place in Pwllhelli and go there regularly.

Hi Keith,

Is it on Yachtworld so I could take a look?

Thanks

Thanks Dean, are you cruising Scotland this summer?

Scott,
No problem, drop me an email in August and we can organise it.

Mark,
Not cruising Scotland as such, just arriving there at some stage over the summer. Currently in Greece.

Just returned last week to my boat in NOUEMA - NEW CALEDONIA and noticed on the Marina bulletin board an AMEL MARAMU 46 1986 for sale. The note says that she is ready & equipped for a round the world voyage.

Pretty sure I looked at it a couple of years ago…

The male partner died his lady from South America had inherited and was selling it;  but wanted an unrealistic price…………high by even Noumea standards. Ports were uv damaged and needed replacing. Motor was fairly new having been replaced in Japan. Two years sitting in tropical sun will also have taken a toll on running rigging etc.

Maybe price expectations by now have moved to a more realistic level…………..if it’s the same boat

Hi Teun

Recall she was looking for $225k. My yacht longer and 5 years younger cost NZ 150 tax paid in NZ. Of course spent a lot more now and I’m on my way across the harbour as I send this to install a new engine!!!

Spoke to some people here in the marina and apparently the MARAMU for sale is NOT the boat from the South American lady (Magdalena ??). Seems to be a different MARAMU.

Hi Andrew,

I am looking at the possibility of a few days cycling in Girona at the beginning of May. Perpignan is only an hour or so away. Are you in the area around that time?

Kind regards

Yes I think that might be possible – we live near Toulouse but are  planning the annual lift out for  4 days  on the 29th of April to 2nd of May  and then will be there or nearby until the weekend of the 11th of May.
