Great Video, I will try it

Hi Wolfgang;

We just ordered about 7 of the loops from Amel.

Great quality dyneema with cover and perfect fit. I think it’s a good idea to help Amel when we can also. Happy with the purchase and quick shipment.

Hi Mohammad,

Hope your sailing is going well, we are now in Sardinia. Stopping at Antibes (Dessalator), Hyeres (Amel parts) soon. Had a very successful haul out in Monastir,  cleaned and checked the 2 year old copper coat job we did there and it is doing exactly as it should. Changed the C-drive seals and finally fitted the new rope cutter that I got from Alexandre.
I do not have any Dyneema loops on any of my rigging. Can you send me a photo of where you use these?  Would be great if these can replace all my metal shackles.

Best regards

Hi Barry;

Glad to hear your hail out went as planned. On Kokomo, all blocks are attached to booms and masts with soft shackles. Attached please find a picture of one of them that we later replaced. We have 2 different lengths and about 7 total (not sure of the exact count because we are currently in the Montenegrin Mountains and not on board to give you an exact count).

Can you send me a list of your contacts and good contractors in Monastir? We may haul out in Tunisia in about a couple of years.

Hello Mohammed & Ati,

We are in Fiji and 5 days ago, we anchored at a resort called Kokomo Resort.  6 star rated, they have their own Twin Otter on floats and a Bell 412 helicopter to fly in their guests.

Hi Mohammad

I hauled out at port de Peche last month and was happy with the labor and price but needed to directly supervise them and check their work regularly providing them good instructions, the two contractors on the east side of the yard are ok

Also I found that you need to establish the firm cost as extra works seem to attract a higher price if not negotiated up front

Not sure about the stainless work, the canvas work at the marina is good

care should be taken confirming the quality of materials as we brought our own anti foul and canvas etc, also I would recommend not leaving the materials with them and supervise them with the materials as they prepare or mix them as there has been recent cases of them swapping materials and using inferior products

I've been nearly 6 years in Monastir. So I know a little the country.
Safety is very good. Marina Monastir is camera guarded. Nice and friendly marineros.
Since my Sharki is a lot smaller than your boat, so I always haul out at the shipyard in the marina.
They (at the shipyard as well as other shops) have done all work very good and very cheap (less than half the price as in Europe).
It might be difficult to get special spare parts. Things I didn't got in Tunisia have been shipped from www.svb.de (Germany) within max a week to Monastir however.

Living cost and marina fees are very low as well as Diesel fuel. Here in Greece now I pay 3-times more.

Mohammad

Hi Mohammad,

I always wondered how one would fit those loops on the blocks if they are already closed? Some blocks look like they can be taken apart (and yet it would still be a tight fit), and others not so.

Any hindsight?

Hi Barry;

Hi Wolfgang;

We just ordered about 7 of the loops from Amel.

Great quality dyneema with cover and perfect fit. I think it’s a good idea to help Amel when we can also. Happy with the purchase and quick shipment.

Hi Thomas;

We managed to take the blocks apart. It does take some patience and work since the years of salt and dust have the parts fused together fairly well.

Once apart the new loops fit right in. Take your time and you will get them apart.
