This should interest all members, especially Amel yacht owners
All owners and all non-owners interested in the Amel Brand:
In the month of July, we added 31 new members to the Amel Yacht Owners Group. There were 20 new members who were "Interested in buying an Amel." There were 11 Amel owners, including several Amel 50 owners and one Amel 60 owner (he has not received his 60 yet) Also we currently have over 1,000 members who receive each of our postings. It must be daunting to those "Interested in Amel" to see all of the postings regarding maintenance issues. I hope they understand that when a group has this many members, there will be a substantial number of maintenance issues that we want to share. That said, I am sure that 99% of the owners consider their Amel the best and safest ocean sailing yacht available. Please consider the fact that someone asking you a question may not own an Amel.....YET! |

Great to read . The Amel yachts and the Amel understanding of cruising at sea add up to something extraordinary which enriches the lives of everyone who owns or aspires to own an Amel. We do not consider it a hyperbole to acknowledge that owning 3 Amels
for the past 30 years has been a central part of the enjoyment of living those 30 years - with many more to come .
A significant part of that enjoyment has been the camaraderie of others owners , not least yourself , through this website .
Long may that be so

We’re all aware of the definition of “Cruising”. It applies to Amels and ALL boats!

My Amel just took us here, right now! What an amazing adventure machine! And I just raced my buddy from Raiatea in his new Leopard 48. It blows his mind that a monohull is faster than his cat!

Thanks Bill, And thank you to all members. We are missing our Santorin. She’s sitting in Borneo with a house keeper as we decide to take a ‘land job’ for family reasons. But giving up the Amel boat life for a few years is a hard choice. Best to all. Trevor On Aug 1, 2019, at 4:33 PM, Porter McRoberts via Groups.Io <portermcroberts@...> wrote:

Good point! A fun Amel pick-me-up for those on here considering an Amel.... met a very cool old French sailor last week, been around the world more than once, pulled up at the dock in a stunning Boreal aluminum beauty, and ran right over and said: I NEVER want to see other people's boats! But an Amel...I always have to try! We had many beers and good times as he extolled the virtues of my own boat better than I could have :D

My wife and I are thoroughly enjoying our new Amel 50. Personally, I really appreciate the thought (Amel philosophy) that went in to designing our boat. As with anything man-made, our boat requires maintenance, which makes me even more thankful that I own an Amel.
Looking forward to enjoying life on the water and taking care of our boat for many years to come. Theo. s/v Paloma, Amel 50 #18 |

Bill, speaking as one of those who really, really, wants to own an Amel but doesn’t yet have one, I find those “maintenance issues” posts fascinating and one key way to learn more about the brand and the different models. When I finally pull the trigger, I feel like I will really know where to go to get help on any problem I could face - this forum (after using your excellent school of course!). This forum is unparalleled in the depth of the information on models, potential issues, maintenance tips and tricks, recommendations and even cruising ground advice - it is one of the key reasons I am totally sold on Amel over competing manufacturers (plus all Amel owners are just so damn smart and good looking so who wouldn’t want to be one!).
Don’t apologize for those kinds of posts…. even though we’ve seen hundreds of posts on how to replace bow thruster seals, I read every one and learn a bit more each time so that when I finally do get my Amel, I know that I should be able to tackle just about anything with reference to those of you who have shared your hard won experience.
For those new owners, you may wish to update your name/boat in the Amel Owner’s Registry https://tinyurl.com/AmelRegistry by submitting the update form at: https://tinyurl.com/AmelRegistryUpdate. We don’t post links to this outside the forum so your information should be safe there. I have yet to hear of anyone getting spammed as a result of this and you get to decide how much, if any, information you would like to share in any case.

As a "new-ish" owner of an Amel at just over 2 years now, I could not agree with Brent more. The existence of this forum was a huge tick in the "Pro" column for buying an Amel when we were looking for a safe, comfortable, and affordable world cruising vessel. The amount of maintenance and technical information including part numbers, sources, methods, tips and tricks are simply amazing for a DIYer bent on exploring places where YOU and your spares are the main (only?) resource that you will rely on to keep your systems operational. The Amel Facebook group does a great job showing you all the beautiful places your Amel can take you. This group does a great job making sure you get there safe and sound, can take a hot shower when you arrive, can cook a nice meal on your stovetop or oven, and can enjoy the cold beverage of your choice in that beautiful place! Both are equally valuable to me.

I forgot to add a shout out to Bill himself... I never had the scratch for the school, but the remote photography-based evaluation service was a god-send. I highly recommend it to any prospective buyers.

Bill Rouse and the Yacht School was our secret weapon to understanding our Amel 54 quickly and logically. I basically had zero experience fixing boats. Through Bill I came to understand not only the ethos of Amel, but how to deal with what seems like insurmountable problems (new furlers, new engine, etc...) in far away places, with a smile on your face. We, my family and myself shake our heads often thanking Bill, without telling him how much we’ve appreciated his help, candor, and amazing attitude as we’ve sailed for the past 2 years. Now we’re in FP with a few miles under our keel. I haven’t walked onto any other sailboat or catamaran I’d rather have. (Also read Fatty Goodlander’s storm proofing your boat, you won’t want anything but an Amel). Thank you Bill for all you’ve done for us and I’m sure they’ll be some echos from all the other folks on this forum: thank you for what you’ve done for Amel!

Bill was my pre-purchase consultant in 2017; inviting me to their house in GALVESTON TX. Without Bill (AND Judy’s) information, honest feedback on AMEL cruising (look at Judy’s detailed spreadsheet on their 10 year cruising costs) I would have never bought
AMELIT.
Then becoming a YACHT SCHOOL member as well as purchasing the lifetime 24/7/365 consulting, combined with Bill flying all the way to NEW CALEDONIA to be on board for close to 10 days has really helped me to understand the boat better and bring AMELIT (almost)
completely back in OEM condition.
As Porter mentioned in an earlier Email last week - these boats are the ultimate & fantastic travel (sea) machines and (Judy +) Bill as well as this forum have, for me, been indispensable. Brgds Teun
