A54 - bow roller hooks

Sv Garulfo

Hi all,

On the Amel 54 there is a pair of of downward facing hooks on the bow roller:

Do you know what they are for? How do you use them?

Best,
Thomas

Hi Thomas,

I use this hooks for placing/locking the anchor „rope“ - to relieve the windlass.
The first loop is on the big towing cleat, the other end (with a thimble + shackle) on the chain - going over the rubber wheel.
If you do not use one of the hooks, the rope will shave on the genua foot - not for long ;-).
I do not know if this is the „Henry Amel“ purpose of this hooks, but for me it makes sense and works well.

Best regards
Stefan

Dear Thomas, dear Ameliens,

after 3 weeks on the anchor I have to take back my thoughts for the hooks on the bow roller. The rope (for the anchor chain) is now clearly reduced. The diameter of the hooks are to small. You have to take an extra protection or binding the rope a bit to side.
Any other ideas for the hooks?

Best regards
Stefan

That looks very complicated.
We have one line, 24-30 mm diameter, with a spliced eye that fits on the center cleet, and then a fixed lengt with a hook in the end.
