SM Anodes especification #replacement
JOSE PRIETO
Hi Amelians,
It's my first time to change the anodes in my SM. I couldn't find the specification on Amel manual. Any suggestion? -- Jose Prieto SV Wayag, SM 323 Currently Alicante, Spain

Hi Jose, If yours are the same as ours, they're 125 mm diameter with a hole for an M10 bolt (11 mm hole). In the US, they're available from BoatZincs, where for some reason they're marketed specifically for Azimut boats, but they're the perfect size for us. The R5 is almost the right size as well, but being imperial, the hole is slightly too small and must be drilled out -- lots of people do this, but it's a pain when you can just get the right ones. I recommend US R7 Anode (zinc 7" diameter). In Europe use a 127mm anode. An M12 bolt is used to secure the anode. Bill

Is it possible the size of the bolt changed between the SM and SM2000? Our anode bolts measure 9.84mm x 40.5mm. It's not imperial, because it's too big to be 3/8". It's exactly in spec for M10. I haven't seen or heard any evidence our boat has been modified in this respect. Ryan and Kelly

Ryan, I do not know. I believe it was a SM2k anode bolt that I measured. Of course, I did not measure a wide range of production years. And with the increasing age of the SM, it is impossible to rule out some owner modification. I do remember that I had to drill-out anodes bought in the US. Bill

I’ll change the anode next week, and I’ll post the screw size here. Thanks again for everyone.
