Anchor washing pump model
Hello,
I am getting used to my new boat. I need some help with model of the anchor washing pump that is not working at all. I made some photos but didinot check at the time how clear the photos are. Now I am 100km away from the boat and I would appreciate help if someone recognise the model of the pump from the photo. As the old one looks, new would be a good solution. This pump is no longer available. It normally can be rebuilt without any issues. A common problem is that the breaker is accidentally turned OFF. The breaker is normally on a box in the engine room on later SMs where the pump is also in the engine room. Early model SMs have the pump near the bow. Bill

I have the same problem at my 55; no water on chain. Where must be the breaker and the pump ? The light at cockpit console in on but nothing happens,

Our anchor wash pump also failed about a year ago, mostly due to rust. It started to drip sea water, which ended up in the bilge by the forward head. We replaced it with an ITT Jabsco Hotshot 6 gallon per minute wash down pump. Great flow and pressure. It fit fairly easily, but the water ports were placed a little differently, but not too hard for a guy who really hates plumbing. I was never really happy with the anchor wash as a whole. I have put in a hose, connected to the anchor wash hoses in the forward port locker. It does require a person up front to clean the chain and anchor, but at least it really does get cleaned. The breaker goes off when I try to start the washing from the cockpit. Pump is installed in engine room and breaker is near the breaker for watermaker.

I did the same on mine. I tried to have the original pump rebuilt, but the cost was a tad more than just replacing it and like Tom, I added a longer hose and couldn’t be happier!

My original pump was under the port side V-berth. Sea water came from the through hull for the forward head. I believe subsequent boats used fresh water heads, and the anchor wash fed off the sea chest in the engine room.

Hi Slavko,
we have the same issue that the dc motor seems to have a short and pops the circuit breaker. I checked the brushes and they are clean and in good shape. Our pump looks just like yours. Our Label isn't readable either, but somewhere in the forum I found a reference that is is an AMFA A66B, which kind of matches the label of ours with good will. The DC motor can probably be replaced with a standard DC motor. I am in the US and we are replacing ours with a PENTAIR SHURFLO PRO BLASTER II 4258 24V pump. It isn't installed yet. I had to get NPT thread fittings hose barbs for 3/4" (19mm) hose. However it seems AMEL installed a 7/8" (22mm) hose. The fittings are all plastic and do not look as robust as the bronze fittings on the AMFA pump. It seems the AMFA A66B pump was also used as fresh water pump. Michael & Robyn, I am positive that you are incorrect. The 66b is a freshwater pump...photo below. The original anchor wash pump for Amel SMs was the: F.E.I.T Pompe Model JDREX S40 24 volt The same pump was then made and supplied to Amel by A.M.F.A. and they used the same model: JDREX S40 24 volt When A.M.F.A. stopped production the same pump was supplied by Reya using the same number, S40 Here is a photo of the S40: The same situation happened with the original freshwater pump, the 66B, with the same suppliers above keeping the same number: 66B Here is a photo of the 66b from my Amel Book: For your information, there was a step-up model freshwater pump for late model SMs and all 54s. Its model number was 88b and it had the same progression of different suppliers as above. Here is a photo of the 88b: I would email Amel and ask if they have any S40 repair kits.

my pump does not look like the one on your photo. Looks like the sea water pump for the engine plus electrical motor. Pump is attached to the end of 24V motor. I will try to check it tomorrow if I have time to go to the boat. Regards, Slavko |

Hi, The seawater pump for anchor washing was just replaced this winter at Amel pontoon by the best at electrical and Amel stuff around : Fred Quintard It was a part of our "Grande visite" works and you'll see attached pictures and Ref on the pump. Of course, it works perfectly and we added a 3 way valve allowing to get salt water in the cockpit and avoiding to see crew going overboard at sea for getting salt water in a bucket for pre-wash of dishes. Keep just in mind that this pump and the original one do not have pressure regulation so you should not close the end of any hose installed on it, just use the switch on the wheel panel to switch it on or off. This situation is a perfect example of, if it is NOT the original pump, nobody knows what pump a 25 year old SM may have installed today, Second and subsequent owners usually have no idea if the original pump was replaced or not. When my anchor wash pump stopped I attemped to rotate the shaft (could not see it because it faced away from me) with a screw driver (like you can do with the AC or Dessalator feed pumps). By mirror I discovered that three is not a hole for access to a slot on the shaft. Instead, to rotate the pump shaft, I inserted a thin shafted screw driver into the fan housing against a fan blade and carefully rotated the pump that way. It solved the problem and I have had no problem for 4 years. Worth a try.

I disassembled pump, clean it and put it back as it was. Starts working, but after 30-40 seconds the fuse goes off. I can reset and it starts again and after 30 seconds the fuse gores off. No water comes on anchor. Is there anything that can block the water or the way to anchor?

Just update on pump. It is fine after the cleaning. there was a piece of dirt in the end of the line (3cm very solid) above the anchor that I cleaned and system is working fine.
