Hardtop for Amel 54 and SM
Philippe Chatton
Hi everyone I noticed that several SM owners seem to have an interest in a hard top - including myself. At one point in time we might consider a group order, assuming we can identify a model / manufacturer, and should an interest be confirmed. Kind regards Philippe S/V Chameleon - Antibes FR

I hope all of you had a good season. This year we sail in Turkish coast in Marmaris - gökova - Gocek. We spent about 90 days at sea. (ıt is quite long for us as a young family of 3, had a school age girl at 5 years old) I wonder about HARDTOP project that is last been discussed in january. Is there any other friends who implemented hardtop for their boat this summer? I wonder about the price of the hardtop from those who had previously assembled. (and also the pictures please…) Best regards; Seckin SY HAYAT SM#76

Hello Seckin. We did the hardtop for our SM last spring with the invaluable help and advice of our friends from Laddy Anilla. It cost us around 6000, canvas, inox and solar panels included. I can share the expenses in detail, if you want. Victor Alendoy SM314

Hi Seckin ,
We had a carbon fibre hard top made for us this year by FYS in Porto Cheli. Complete with solar panels , LED lights , solar screens at the side and back and for this winter we have designed a winter enclosure ( not unlike the original SM winter extension
to the Amel Bimini but with far more headroom . )
We love it . It has taken an already generous cockpit to a new level .
That’s the good news . The bad news is that the man who made it has sworn never to make another ! He is a perfectionist . A keen sailor of a fast catamaran , he has built a number of carbon fibre hard tops for catamarans but this was his first SM hard
top . I think it took him a lot more time than he had anticipated . As his last hard top it is a real tribute to his skills
I have posted some pictures on this site and will rustle up some more —- but not just now as it’ s raining in Kilada !

Hi All. Watch this youtube video I think it's one of the best hard tops I have seen Jump to the 12 minute mark to see it. Not sure which boat it is maybe someone out there can find out and who built it for them . Regards Steve Dusk SM 378

It was the best solution so far, but I have some thoughts.

1. It is to low 2. You can’t open up forward, where the wind comes from 3. With the hatch in the roof, you have taken away the best position for solarpanels. regards Ann-Sofie S/Y Lady Annila, SM232, 1998

I quite like the extended side curtains on that video for the Super Maramu. The 54 doesn’t really need that as they seemed to make them just a bit longer. This is one of the best that I’ve seen. I only understand a bit of French but from what I can gather, he had it built to his design (shows the drawings). It is very much like a factory A55 hard top as the inside is as pretty and well done as the exterior with solar panels and a port light to see the mainsail built in. Soleil Bleu has since changed owners so not sure if the previous owner is still reachable. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DT7x0SjM648&t=1s

Hello all. Please accept my apologies for the delay in responding to the request for pictures and more information about the hard top that we did for our Super Maramu. The first thing that I would like to underline is that the design and process of our hard top is the intellectual property of our very good friend Sophie, from Lady Anilla, and that we would never have been able to even consider building the hardtop ourselves without the advice of Jonas, her husband. I want to emphasize the credit to them with everything related to our work. The second thing to consider is that we did this in Corfú, Greece, during lockdown for Covid, so supplies were more expensive to get. The only thing that we did out of Greece is the canvas work that took place in Cádiz (Spain). I am enclosing a file with the dimensions, cost and pictures of the one that we did. We are very happy with the result. Should anyone need something else, I'll be happy to help. Best. Victor
