This may help you, especially if you have an AutoProp and AutoProp puller.

Slavko,
I removed mine probably ten years ago to send it out to have it coated by Color Wheels ,a vinyl coating that has held up very well and still looks new. As to getting the wheel off, it took a lot of force to get it off. If I remember correctly I put stainless hose clamps around the spokes and used a prop puller to apply the force necessary to get it off. It took much more force and time than I expected to get it to pop off. I think I would now use deneema line instead of clamps ,if I removed it again .
Hope this helps,
Pat

I ask local shop to make a tool and after 5 minutes steering wheel was off. Easy an fast. It took much more time to have tool made b6 local shop. Cost was 10€. Diameter of inner wheel is 90mm and distance between two holes is 63 mm.
Bellow are some photos.

Eric,

More than you wanted to know:

There are two threaded holes 8mm on either side of the axis. Use the AutoProp Puller and modify it by drilling two 9mm holes spaced 48mm - 63mm apart (it varies). Two 8mm screws are inserted into the new holes of the extractor and screwed into the holes of the wheel. By screwing in the center bolt of the AutoProp Puller, the steering wheel can be removed.

Note from Steve S/V ALOHA: The older SMs do not have the 2 holes on the wheel for a puller. A technique that works is to have one person sit in the helm seat and pull hard on the wheel with both hands while the other taps on the shaft with a weighted mallet. Make sure to protect the threads on the shaft with the nut. This was recommended by Olivier, and it worked after a few whacks.
