Hope you guys are well.


In reference to below I suggest you make sure that there is no variance at all between the pick-up points of the dinghy and the rollers. Even using a correct length horizontal line between the 2 hoisting lines forcing them in the right (directly down) angle to the rollers I still experienced with a (temporary – you know my dinghies saga) brand-new 360 HIGHFIELD, in rough seas (over 35knts wind) & in open ocean, the stern davit line break due to chafing and, inexplicably, the dinghy was able to worm itself out the additional (2 crossed under the hull as well as 1 each directly from P to SB on bow and stern) safety straps causing the stern hanging almost into the water.


Of course late afternoon/early evening with still some daylight but I wonder if we would have noticed if this happened during the night.

Can assure you NOT a fun experience!!!


This was crossing from MARE (NEW CALEDONIA) to TANNA (VANUATU).

I used to have the 10’ 6” Highfield and loved it you can put it longways with the rear pontoons on either side of the shower hatch or across either way fits.  If using the winter enclosure must be placed across does partially block part of the deck but really no issue.

Hi Mohammad,

the Highfield CL 360 fits almost perfectly to the Simpson davits. There is only a difference of approx. 4 cm inbetween the pick-up points on the tender and the rollers on the davits.

But you could also adjust this perfectly with small changes to the dinghy.

The CL 360 will certainly start to plane with a 20 HP outboard motor and 4 people in the boat.

With six people on board, we were very quickly with the new Yamaha 25PS ...

At the stern there are also two attachment points for toys or other things to pull.

We have had many dinghies from Zodiac and other manufacturers ... the Highfield seems to be better in processing than many similarly priced boats... especially the aluminum hull.

I know some blue water sailors who have changed to a Highfield and are very enthusiastic.

Currently we stay for the winter period in the northern Adriatic sea. There and in many places in the Mediterranean we had to moore with stern first. Sometimes it´s not easy... you have to be careful with the dinghy. But it doesn´t matter if the dinghy is 3,40 or 3,60 long.

Thanks for the input. Did you have to make any modifications to the lifting points to be able to lift the dinghy on the Davits or was it just plug and play? We currently have a 20HP Yamaha 4-stroke. Do you think this will plane with 4 people? We’d also like to be able to pull surfboards and other toys behind. Are there attachments at the transom for ski ropes and do you see any issues pulling with this tender?


Not sure where you are currently cruising, but do you have to moor stern to? If so, does the CL360 interfere with adjacent yachts when leaving the dock in a cross breeze?

this year we bought a Highfield CL360 in Hypalon. It fits perfectly on the AMEL davits (Cooney Simpson).

Hypalon should be chosen if the dinghy has been in salt water for a longer period and is exposed to strong sunlight.

We have a powerful outboard motor (Yamaha 25PS) with which the CL 360 can drive perfectly over long distances, even with several people. The aluminum hull is very light (the CL360 weighs only approx. 70kg) and thanks to the good V-shape it drives very well over the waves, even at higher speeds.

Incidentally, the new Yamaha 25PS still fits in the aft locker on the outboard motor bracket ... a perfect place for the outboard motor for longer sea passages or winter storage.

In addition, the CL360 fits perfectly (upside down) on the aft deck ... also for longer sea passages or winter storage.

We are very happy with this dinghy choice.

We are looking for a new tender, as our existing 12 year old Zodiac Classic foldable with aluminum floor planks that came with our Amel, is starting to have some of the glue joints fail. It has been a great stable ride that planes with a 20HP with 4 people. We have been considering the Highfield line and will not be onboard prior to ordering, Therefore, we would appreciate comments on the following issues:

  1. How does the CL310 or CL340 fit on the Davits?
  2. PVC or Hypalon? We will most likely be in the Med for another 3 years and then onto the Caribbean. AT this point our ongoing plan is to continue sailing West. about 6 months every year.
  3. Our existing 3.5 Meter Zodiac, does present some challenge trying to leave the dock, while Med Moored in a cross wind, if we have yachts at both sides. The tender is about 18-24 inches wider than the stern, therefore the bow on the tender can get caught in the stanchions of the adjacent yacht. In extreme conditions, we lower the tender and tow behind until we are clear of the dock and then bring the tender up on Davits. Does anyone have a better solution?
  4. What is your general impression of the quality, ride and longevity of the highfield line?
  5. What other tender lines have you used that you could recommend?

I have the Highfield CL310 Hypalon and the Simpson davits. After breaking a few of the lifting lines, here's what we do:

- Replaced the stainless lines with dyneema. Didn't pay Simpson the 4000 GBP or whatever silly amount they wanted to replace the internals to "accommodate dyneema". Simply replaced the stainless with dyneema and splice an eye into the dinghy end. Has worked fine for nearly 2 years and 15+ thousand miles.

- After I lift the dinghy, I simply put a dyneema soft shackle into the dinghy painter eye. I then put the securing ratchet strap through this eye, with one end connected to the stainless eye at the end of the davit and the other end is hooked to a line that I put right at the "armpit" of the davit. Crank it tight. The ratchet strap cannot slip off the bow unless the soft shackle breaks, which is very unlikely as I use a 6mm shackle. If you're really scared of chafe, put a dyneema chafe sleeve on the soft shackle, but the eye will probably rip off before the soft shackle breaks.

- For the stern end, put a short but stout (I use 8mm self made) soft shackle on the eye underneath the davit, near where the lifting lines exit. I use a bigger one on the stern because I usually keep my 44kg motor on. I then put a ratchet strap from one dinghy lifting eye through the soft shackle to the other lifting eye. Crank tight.

THEN, I release the davit lifting lines just a bit so there is almost no tension on them but if the ratchet strap / dyneema soft shackle system breaks, they can still act as a backup.
