Hello all- Christian here with a newbie question that hopefully one or 2 of you old salts can answer.....

we enjoy SM #350  and when organizing this weekend I found 2 spots of the bilge with water that wasnt quite fresh, and not salty enough for straight ocean water by taste....
pics included

pic #1) in the bilge to centerline of the forward head in passage way between salon and forward berth.  I have a sensor there and that doesnt appear to be leaking also doesnt appear to be coming from the floor drain in the head.  also wondering what the grey pipe I am pointing to in the pic comes from? perhaps that is it....

pics #2,3,4)  in main salon the storage compartment under the salon table aft of the table stand.  found quite a bit there.  wondering of it could be from condensation from the chest freezer just aft of that compartment?  there is a piece of hose with quite a sharp angle that is crimped you can see at bottom, also wondering what that is? if it  is to carry water, I see a problem with flow given the severe crimp  Also what does that white plug lead to? I couldnt get it out with my fingers and not sure if I want to pull it with pliers until I know what it is....

I'm not sure what the tube is you're pointing at...I'm not sure if I have that, but i'm won't be at my SM335 for a few months.

Regarding the water under the table,  I had that when a water connection leaked under the galley sink and eventually it made its way to under the table.  In that case, I also had water in the floor locker in the galley and the floor lockers your standing on in the pictures.  Good luck!

Hi Cristian,

I would check the “y” copper fitting for a hairline crack at the forward head.. I had to replace mine for the same problem that you mentioned. The crack was on the underside of the fitting and being that it also has the anchor locker connected

the water might be a bit salty but it also mixes with the shower and sink drain water.

pic1)  I have the same problem and can't find out where it comes from.
pics 2 to 4) When I had that, as Jason wrote, it was a leak under the sink, the little "funnel" in the mid part between the two sinks was broken.

I believe that the gray pipe must have been added. Gray PVC is generally an electrical conduit, and I simply do not remember anything there. Maybe someone else does, and if so, please post a photo of it. I went through all of my photos of this area and found nothing.

Water in this area almost always comes from seepage from the bow thruster seals. Also, this area of the bilge is the lowest point between the bow and the watertight bulkhead. So any leak from anywhere will accumulate here. I suggest that you dry this area completely and then create a dam of some sort of powder encircling where the pool of water is shown. This will allow you to determine which direction it is coming from. Also, take paper towels and place them around suspicious pipes, hoses, and fittings. Monitor all of these closely and within a few days, you will know much more.

I was referring to the pool of water. I have read everything I could find on that problem in this forum and your "bible". As I understand, if the bowthruster leaks the water should be evacuated through the tube coming from the housing of the thruster. If not, it should first "pass" the front cabin, there it is bone dry. I will investigate further with paper towels as you suggested.

Please take a photo of the gray pipe on 426

Starting with about 400 or slightly higher, Amel modified the bow thruster. Your SM 426 has a system that captures any seepage from the bow thruster seals and drains it into the gray water bilge. This is similar to the system Amel installed on the A54 and all after the A54. These newest bow thrusters are easily recognized. All of the Bow Thrusters prior to the one on the left did not have a water seepage capture system and the water that seeped past the seals always pooled in the hull outside the forward head.

The small gray pipe is to remove water that can get caught up behind a longitudinal stringer outboard of the shower pan. This happens when the thruster leaks or other water source and the boat heel to port. Salt water gets kind stinky if left stagnant. I believe boats from around #300 on have this. If you have a pre #300 with this small gray pipe, let us know.

Hello,
Two years ago, i had the problem on my 54.
After looking for a long time, i found that the pipe that connects the bowthruster to the bilge was clogged.  At the starboard list, a little water passed through the sheath of the electric cables that supply the bowthruster. This sheath is filled with silicone seal but it had come off and let the water through.  After unblocking the drain pipe, everything was back to normal.

I think the the explanation from Joel is better than any Photo :-)
I didn't know that the water seepage capture system does not exist on all the SM. Now I understand those discussion. But it doesn't explain where I get this water. A month ago after a bumpi sail I found a lot of water. Cleaning it up and a bunpi sail later, there is no water.....The salt water hoses under the floor of the front head cabinet are dry.

You need to determine the location that the water is coming from. This area of the bilge is the lowest point between the bow and the watertight bulkhead. So any leak from anywhere will accumulate here. I suggest that you dry this area completely and then create a dam of some sort of powder encircling where the pool of water is shown. This will allow you to determine which direction it is coming from. Also, take paper towels and place them around suspicious pipes, hoses, and fittings. Monitor all of these closely and within a few days, you will know much more.

Let me know what you find.

Following up-
1) the forward bilge water is coming from the shower drain pain connection to the hose that drains to grey water sump

2) the one under the salon table was coming from under the sink as someone had mentioned to check.  My water maker sampling pipe was trickling a small amount of water from the sampling end whenever we made water and accumulating there, and then flowing forward while we were sailing to also get in to the compartment under the salon table. 

All areas dried and will be monitored. 
I take this as a reminder to periodically check all the compartments for anything “out of the ordinary” so as to catch small problems early.
