Thanks again, everybody.
Jeffrey. I made a short video of the fuel line for you. https://youtu.be/6y61yrK3xaQ Please do send me a direct email and we can do a video call about Mango #12 and #14. |

So glad to see this thread and you were able to get your engine running. I just purchased a 1980 mango #12. I have had to remove a day tank for fuel. At present I am unsure of the correct fuel line routing. Could you snap a few pictures so to confirm the correct fuel line route and filter sequence. Thanks On Tue, Sep 13, 2022, 2:00 AM Daniel Alexander Thompson <Thompson.Xander@...> wrote:

This entire thread is a perfect example of why this forum is the best owner's forum in the boating world.
Not that I contributed anything useful to it! :) Daniel - our first time anchoring, we had to do it using sails as our motor died, so I feel your pain. Have a beer and take a nap! -- Scott 2007 A54 #69 SV Tengah http://www.svtengah.com |

Rusian,
Teun,
Since I am too stingy to devote a lot of resources in the direction of camera equipment, my wife has been praying for a solution for her camera gear. So if you want to offload the entire range of equipment for a fair price, I’m sure we could oblige in purchasing it. God would likely provide a courier, en-route to Malta, too.

Daniel,
Tell your wife that there is surely a strong need for another “sailing YouTube channel” since there are only over 900 existing sailing YouTube channels.
Also – it is sooooooooooooooo easy (typical Dutch sarcasm 😊) to produce a short 15 minute video every week; it only takes an average of 1 HOUR editing for every 1 MINUTE final product.
In 2017 my kids gave me an extensive GoPro and other (underwater) camera set up (in addition to all the video & photography crap I already owned ☹) suggesting I also start a YouTube channel. Who are they kidding; an old man, no skimpy bikini clad women on board hahahahahaha so I never took the stuff out of the original packaging and it is still laying untouched on the boat. Most people don’t realize the editing associating with a well-produced video clip.
Swearing, expletives etc. YouTube will de-monetize (but that’s not a problem bcoz, unless over 100K views, you don’t make any money at all), censor and/or block. Hahahahahaha.

(When i mentioned above that i "wrote a post"; i meant that i wrote a post, here in a different message above.) I think i will need to heavily censor every single video. Expletives and all. Blessings Daniel Oronia Mango #14 |

Danny and Yvonne. Thank you. I definitely need to do some practise anchoring with the jib only, so that i don't feel naked without the motor. I can't imagine stern to with a jib, though!!! Thanks, Rusian. During most of this I disconnected the pipe that takes the sea water from the impeller to the heat exchanger. The impeller still had water for lubrication the salt water was just spat out into the bilge. |

Daniel, congratulations on your victory! Now you have one heck of a sea story to share :)
As a precaution check engine oil and make sure there is no water. The reason is that ppl crank the engine and during this time a water pump keeps drawing water in, but because there is no exhaust to push it out, with enough cranking, the pump can draw too much water and overflow into the engine through the exhaust lines. -- Fair winds Ruslan Osmonov Phanthom, A54 #44 |

Rusian.
The line on the back is the fuel return from the injectors. All four injectors feed into it. The engine is working now. I wrote a post explaining what i did. Thank you so much. I'm really happy, now. |

Bingo. Engine is back in action.
Thank you so much guys for all your help. You really saved my behind. In the end I opened up all eight nuts on the four injectors top and bottom (way more than half a turn). Then i waited for fuel to pour through and then shut them all off. Then i sprayed WD-40 in the air intake and slowly it began to start. Working perfect, now. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Hi all, I have two comments to make here.
1) Years ago when I was a teenage boy playing with old motor cycles my father gave me some sage advice. Son, if you think the motor needs major repairs, change the spark plug first. In other words start looking at the simple solutions first. In this case fuel and since you had been at sea motoring for some time and your fuel tank is decades old the first place to check is the in tank gauze filter. How to correct/check this? separate the fuel line and blow air back into the tank. A foot operated dinghy inflator will give you all the blow you need
2) Motor failure and drifting. We are yachts not power boats, our engine is not our primary propulsion, it is an auxiliary. Unless you are in an impossible to sail situation on a lee shore, sail. If there is no wind, that will not last, wind will come. if you are drifting, anchor until the wind comes, if it is too deep to anchor drifting is not a problem. Sail to a harbour. Nearly all of us have a dinghy with a 15hp out board. Lash the dinghy along side and you have propulsion to get you to your anchorage. Don't try to tow from the front with the dinghy, doesn't work.
Kind Regards
Danny

Daniel, what is the line on the back? I have an arrow pointing to it? Does it connect to the injector? Most likely your intake like is this one, red circle, just loosen it a bit and pump until you see steady flow of diesel, then close it back and repeat with all injectors. But I need to understand what the line on the back is for, to be sure. I also attached an image of how for example volvo engine injects look like and which nut to loosen (arrow) you can also see absorb material under it to catch diesel. Hello , Check the out going Waterflow iff that is normal then the impeller is fine...could also be a clogged heat exchanger... I have bled the two filters and now need to bleed the high pressure pump and injectors. To do this, should i slightly open the four small nuts on top of the injector? (picture attached) which are part of the fuel return pipe Or, should i slightly open the four larger nuts to the bottom of the injector? The nut that is part of the injector supply. Was this the type of injector you were expecting, Nick? I ask because i don't think either nut is a 19mm. Blessings Daniel Oronia Mango #14 |

Hi again, Nick
It took me un til now to get the fuel through to the bleed nut on the secondary engine filter. The engine is forty years old and will not start. Maybe it is in need of the injector remedy. You wrote: crack the injectors. You will see that the hard metal fuel lines (pipes) go to the fuel pump and then to each cylinder. I think with a number 19 spanner you just open the injector nut a half turn for each one, place a rag by each one. Turn the engine over with the starter and when you see fuel spurt out of the injector line close it with the spanner. The engine will probably start on two cylinders and then three, and so on as you close the injectors.

hi Daniel, if you turn on ignition key and if you have electric fuel pump, you will hear it ticking. and the "heartbeat" could be slow or fast depending on the lines. if you do have electric pump, then you dont really need to bleed the system, just let the pump run for some time, also usually by the pump there is small wheel valve that you can open to let the pump get rid of air faster. just dont forget to close it back, when you done. if you have mechanical pump, then it will be quite an exercise for your fingers. those pumps are small and require a lot of pushes to get fuel through the lines. If your copper line is clogged, one way to try is to push it all back, if you have an air pump on board (usually ppl carry it to air up fenders), you can try to pump it back into the tank. If you do a jerry rig to take fuel from the jerry can, remember that you need to feed the return line back to the can, otherwise the engine will suck from the can and return it to the tank and it will do that very quickly. When routinely replacing filters, do you think it is worthwhile to fill the filters with dlesel, before mounting. --
