 We have hardly run the saloon aircon since launch a week ago. Alas, not the culprit. I did check it--bone dry.

Have you been running the a/c?   This happened to me once due to a clog in the small hose that drains the a/c condensate.  In humid conditions it was remarkable how much condensate there was.
