Heck fender repair or #replacement
The heck fender of my Amel Santorin from 1990 is damaged, see picture. Spare part from Amel is unlikely, does anybody have experience with repair? What glue would be suitable for thsi foam construction?

I got a new one from Maud last year for my Santorin. Unfortunately Wally the Walrus left a couple of tusk marks on it trying to get on board in the Isles of Scilly! Nice to carry his autograph around though!!

Some years ago, after being told that a spare was not anymore available at Amel, I found an acceptable solution by repairing a seriously dented fender ( I could recuperate some loose fragment) by using liberally the classic white Sikaflex as gluing/filling agent, to the point of reconstructing some void left by the fragments put back in place. Once well dried up (some days), the fender can be faired and painted over. Do not expect a “like new” result but largely within limits palatable to a fastidious owner.
After several seasons, it is still in a good shape and this winter I shall reward it with a new coat of white paint. I learn now from the post that the part for the Santorin was available one year ago and I’ll contact Amel for my SM. Bests Paolo Cuneo SM 454 Whisper Inviato da iPad -- Paolo Cuneo SM 454 Whisper |

I just replaced my bumper, I bought from Maud ,but for a SM,however I gave a lot of thought about replacing it with an aft swim platform incorporating a ladder into it. Several Amel owners have done that and it is a nice addition to the boat. If you can't buy a factory replacement ,I would give that consideration .
Good Luck,

Kent on Kristy installed one ,it looks great and makes getting on and off the boat easier ,I think he has a built in ladder as well . I know there are others ,but can't think of the names. It would not be too hard to design and fabricate.

Amel has the aft bumpers in stock for the SM’s. I have one being shipped right now. Over the past winter the shrinkwrapping straps sawed my current bumper nearly in half. Just another reason to move Celtic Cross out of the Great Lakes and south to Florida…😁

Paolo,
I don't know if anyone posted photos in the photo or file section, you may check there.
Basically owners have had stainless steel brackets fabricated and bolted to the back of the boat where the bumper bolts are attached. Sometimes with a SS. tube around the perimeter for added strength . The decking is often teak ,but I suppose you could use composite decking as well. If I had the time before leaving on a trip ,I would installed one ,it would be easy to design and not hard to fabricate and install. You can probably google aft landings and see hundreds of examples.
Good Luck,
Pat

Good advice I got when we bought our boat for the care and feeding of the aft fender: Coat in annually with paint made for inflatable dinghies.
We have always used the West Marine brand, just because it was cheap. Keeps the UV off. We bought one new from Amel 6 years ago, and it still looks brand new. Bill Kinney SM160, Harmonie Port Louis, Grenada http://wwwl.cruisingconsulting.com |
