Water Cooled Refrigeration Efficiency Issue
To: A54 owners and others that have seawater heat exchange for refrigeration Recently an A54 owner found his refrigeration efficiency problem was caused by an 80% blockage in the Primary Saltwater Manifold. This was not easily seen from the Sea Chest, and really can only be seen by removing the 35mm Hose to the Secondary Manifold. After doing all sorts of things to increase efficiency, he discovered that he had erroneously omitted a checking for a clogged Primary Saltwater Manifold and the Hose connecting the Primary to the Secondary Saltwater Manifold. What was happening was since the Primary Saltwater Manifold blockage was on the suction side of both Refrigeration and AC Pumps, the AC pump being much stronger simply starved the Refrigeration Pump. The same is true of the Saltwater Pumps on the Onan and the Main Engine. If there is a restriction in the supply line the Refrigeration Pump will be starved for water and your fridge and freezer will suffer.
