Bilge pump spares
Paul Dowd and Sharon Brown
Hi all,
When servicing the automatic bilge pump I note that the spares kit also contained two stiff plastic parts the same shape as the flapper valves, attached photo. There were no such parts in the pump when I dismantled it so I have not used them, but would like to know what they are for.
I also note that there were two diaphragms in the kit and two installed, so I did replace them both, but am curious as to why there should be two.
Cheers, Paul

I believe they were added to stiffen the rubber parts, but we may never know for sure. I recommend that you use these on the outside of the rubber part.

I rebuilt my bilge pump a few months back and used them as backing for the rubber parts. Seems like a bit of redundancy, that may help lengthen the life. So good so far.

Hi Bill, I agree, the flapper valves over time develop a curve upwards meaning they dont easily seal
