Hello all!
As part of refitting our new, old boat I knew that we’d eventually need to install a new fridge, especially as there were signs of the previous owner having tried to keep it running. The priority increased when I had part of the lower sheet metal fall off and crumble to dust in my fingers. It went up to urgent when I noticed that after using the fridge for two weeks a cloud of flies has taken up residence in that corner of the galley, most likely due to the leaking water providing a nice humid, warm environment for them and their eggs.
I’ve made some measurements, and it appears that there would be appropriate space for the Dometic CRX-140; however, I’m reticent about moving the fridge for fear that the whole think will just crumble as I do so, so I thought I’d ask here and see if anyone has fitted their Super Maramu with this fridge. If so, are there any things I’d need to tend to as part of the installation?
Thanks,

Hello Jeannette and Tilo
We had just replaced our original fridge on SM 194 by the Dometic CRX 140 S. It fits perfectly, is even a bit larger. You just habe to remove the wooden support underneath the old one. I placed it bottom up under the New one, so I had a good fixation to the sides by inserting two wooden planks of 520 x 85 x 16 mm one at each side.
It is very energyefficient in comparison to the old one.

Thanks Andreas!
Based on your input I’ve ordered one and will hope to see it midweek or later (given that I’m in Italy, I’m counting more on the “later” part ;-)

Hi Tito I ordered in Martinica a Dometic fridge in the USA. It was supposed to arrive in a week and I patiently waited 40 days and not fault of the French. Nonetheless, I have not written anything about the American people. I suggest you to avoid clichés because they are often very reductive compared to reality and denote lack of knowledge and disrespect for the country. I believe that Italy with all its problems, is no longer pizza, mafia and mandolins.

Hi Giorgio,
Apologies for the delayed reply. You make a valid point and I stand corrected. Not only are you correct in that I shouldn’t make broad generalizations or cultural implications, but the chandlery in the port did, in fact, have it delivered to me on the day they had promised.
The CRX-140 does fit the space, but one has to sacrifice the wood panel door. For the added space and efficiency, I’m okay with having a metal door front in the galley.
Cheers,
Tilo

Be careful with shipping of such parts. I have ordered the fridge from a well known company and they have been willing to ship it abroad (Tunisia in this case). In some countries you have to get the parcel yourself from the freight terminal and you must have the freight papers to get it. After some discussions the company finally send the papers to me and then I see in the received papers they have charged me a far more greater amount as they have payed themself. After all I have not had any customs charges to pay because the fridge was declared as transit good to a boat with foreign flag. However I never ordered any parts with this company anymore. -- Gerhard Mueller Amel Sharki #60 Currently North Sea, Germany

Hello Jeanette and Tilo,
I'm looking at replacing our frig also. I'd be interested to see a picture of the Dometic CRX 140 in a Super Maramu According to the manufacturer the product depth is 620 mm When I measure the depth of the cabinet where our original Frigoboat frig is installed it measures 590mm So the CRX 140 would project 30 mm from the aft flush galley line... Is this an issue ?

Alan,
You are comparing a SM2k to an older SM. It might be a legitimate comparison, or not. Tilo's fridge is mounted near the stove, yours near the companionway.

Hi Alan,
Bill’s point is quite valid. The reshuffled galley is the major place where the SM2Ks differ from the older stock. So this would be a problem point.
I won’t be on the boat until next week, and I’ll upload a photo of the fridge then for those who think they may want to go that route.

We just replaced our galley fridge with a vitrifrigo 130, remote compressor. Can reuse the existing wooden frame under the old fridge. Michael Nebo sm251

We just replaced our frigo by a Dometic CRX 140 on our SM #194. I had to work out the wooden podest and turn it over, then it fits perfectly and builds up a recipient for the fridge with a small space of 16 mm at each side to be filled with a plank of 52x9 cm. The depth is sufficient for the fridge (see the picture) Fortuna SM # 194 Andreas Irion currently Carloforte South Sardinia

Yes Bill, quite right. The dimensions of the space are clearly different - my mistake,
I would like to hear from SM2K owners whoi have replaced the frig - with what ? I have to admit having difficulty finding one that will fit - I'd like to replace the existing unit with a drawer frig.
