Freshwater pump 24v

Nick Newington

Pictured below is the original freshwater pressure pump. It works just fine, after 16 years, but I have no spare pump nor service Kit for this one.

I have never pulled it apart, and have no manual. I am guessing that since it is self priming it uses a rubber impeller.
Does anyone know?
Does it have carbon brushes?
Is there a service kit?

I was thinking to service it and buy an inexpensive spare/back up maybe Marco or another brand.

Kind regards

Looking more closely at the pump, it must be a bronze impeller with some kind of shaft seal.
I guess the shaft seal will be the first to leak or the motor itself to need a bit of TLC.

It is an 88b made by 4 different manufacturers, but all of them named it the 88b. I am absolutely positive more than a few owners have replaced the 88b and have an overhaul kit that includes the parts in a red font and with an asterisk below.

It has a typical 12mm mechanical seal, and yes a bronze impeller.

Hi Bill,
Thanks, the impeller likely to live forever in freshwater. The shaft seal will eventually fail…..so should have a spare; what about carbon brushes?

I do not know the size of the brushes. Based on the smaller 66b freshwater pump, I expect the brushes to last 10-15 years full-time aboard. The brushes in your 54 are probably near the end of life.

The Rebuilt kit from Reya for the A88B was originally number A88B-K24V. You might want to contact them at reya@... and ask.

The Amel ref number for the kit was 3026 (AM88 Kit) and it was originally about 130 €. You might want to ask Maud

I believe this is your repair kit for the 88b: https://www.imnasa.com/en/repair-kit-amfa-88b-880b-24v.html
If it is still on the shelf, it may be dusty. Refer to the blow-up I sent you earlier to determine all of the parts in the kit.
