A55 issues
Bill, thanks for your help. Yes, the replacement of the fans was not made as it should be, so I want to correct this and appreciate the support from group members.
Best regards

Ales, Remember that the Amel 55 varies considerably during the production years. What may exist on one 55, may not on another. The way one 55 is rigged, may not be the way another 55 is rigged. Your best source of information will be another 55 owner whose A55 is very close to your hull number or SAV@.... But, of course, there is another variable. That is the kind of work performed on your Amel by the previous owner(s), or the people hired by the previous owner(s). I am 99% certain that the fans have been changed and different fans installed by people other than Amel. I say that because of the obvious wiring connections. Here are some photos that may help you. I hope they do. The photos, other than yours are from an A55 that is 2 hull numbers from yours. This photo shows the breakers for 2 Fans - a "Blower" and a "Suction." This is a photo of a 55 that is 2 hull numbers from your 55. This is the original Amel install of the Exhaust Fan on a hull number 2 from yours: And, lastly, I believe that none of the fans in A55 #34 were installed by Amel. They simply would not install them this way. I think I see loose and/or taped connections. I hope this helps you get to a solution. Bill

Thank you all!
1) Apparently, on my boat, someone replaced the original extractor with two fans (see photos). I'm not sure if they are as functional as the original one. Do you have the mark & part number of the original extractor?
When I am on board, I will check how they are wired.
2) Thx
3) I will ask SAV for details regarding the mizzen boom topping. However, I would appreciate it if somebody had a photo or drawing of how it is assembled.
Best regards,

Congratulations on buying a great boat!
1. I'm not on my boat but have attached a few pictures from the manual and from my engine room. I believe my boat only has one blower - the exhaust - and the intake happens naturally through the vacuum created by the exhaust fan. There is another blower which is installed next to the water pump. That is the exhaust for the battery compartment. On my boat, if I press the "Ignition" switch, the engine room fan turns on, if I turn off the engine, the fan turns off but only if I press the ignition switch after I press the "start/stop" switch. There is no thermostat. The relay in the white box on the starboard side turns on the exhaust fan for the batteries whenever the engine or the generator is started. I think if the engine and the generator are turned off, the relay turns off that fan. I would suggest you send an email to sav@... with your specific questions regarding part numbers. 2. My boat came standard with the Automatic Start but I was warned in the introduction to the boat not to use it when I'm off the boat. I've not used it but I will start using it this season as a backup safety measure to protect the batteries. 3. The topping lift is tensioned with a bungee inside the boom. I assume the bungee broke on your boat and so you're looking at a jury rigged topping lift. I have never looked at the attachment myself so I'm no help on that. I hope this helps. Welcome Ales,
I have A55-64 - Elation 1 - My memory is that both the engine room intake AND exhaust fans come on with the ignition switch but I haven't had reason to look that closely. We are away from our boat till March. I would look at the back of your silver manual binder to see if your electrical drawings are there. I found them to be pretty accurate for the standard systems such as the blowers. 2 - not all A55s have the automatic start box. (I know this from my boat search). We do but in practice we have never used it and I honestly doubt we ever will. You are far better to keep a human eye on your battery state. I would be very reluctant to use it unattended. 3 - Your topping lift should have an internal take up system inside the boom with a bungee. It involves a pulley and a bit more so ask sav for the specific parts list as I have never had to work on ours. The purpose is to keep the topping lift taught when the boom rises with the mizzen sail. It appears that they had an issue and just tied it off. Regards, Jay |

Answers in RED: 1) Could you please send me photos of your engine room intake and outtake fans and ventilation tubes? In my case, the intake ventilator starts with the ignition, which is ok. On the other hand, the outtake fans are directly connected to the fuse switch, so I can only turn them on by entering the engine room. I think there should be a thermostat in the engine room, but it looks like they removed it when repairing the fans before the handover. I will appreciate a description of how ventilation works on your boat, what are the part numbers of the ventilators and how the thermostat is connected. Both the Input and Output blowers should start when the ignition switch is turned ON. These are in a 24v circuit which is engaged by a 12v relay connected to the ignition circuit. You will need to trace why you have the problem or hire an electrician to do so. I have some information that you may find helpful that I will send to you directly. 2) I do not have a Generator Automatic Start box in the engine room, so I assume this functionality is only available in newer models. Is the automatic start of the generator useful in practice? What if something goes wrong running the generator when no one is on board? The Automatic Start was an option for the A55 and I have not seen it on early models. I do not recommend using it. 3) My boat comes with a strange mizzen boom's topping lift halyard connection (see photo). What is the correct connection of this halyard? Someone has modified the Amel Boom Topping. This should be restored to its original rigging. Bill

Hello group members,
I am a new owner of A55 #34 (2015 model) and am discovering specific items, connections, settings and other "secrets" of Amel 55. It looks like I have the User manual for some recent A55 because the situation on my boat is not exactly as described in the manual. Here are some issues/questions:
1) Could you please send me photos of your engine room intake and outtake fans and ventilation tubes? In my case, the intake ventilator starts with the ignition, which is ok. On the other hand, the outtake fans are directly connected to the fuse switch, so I can only turn them on by entering the engine room. I think there should be a thermostat in the engine room, but it looks like they removed it when repairing the fans before the handover. I will appreciate a description of how ventilation works on your boat, what are the part numbers of the ventilators and how the thermostat is connected.
2) I do not have a Generator Automatic Start box in the engine room, so I assume this functionality is only available in newer models. Is the automatic start of the generator useful in practice? What if something goes wrong running the generator when no one is on board?
3) My boat comes with a strange mizzen boom's topping lift halyard connection (see photo). What is the correct connection of this halyard?
Thanks!
