Forwardscan B&G AMEL 54

Hello
Planning to install forward scan, have been looking at
Interface, but understand some of you have replaced the Interface with B&G, was it big difference in performance?
We have now all Raymarin, guess B&G forward scan not possible to connect with Raymarin, but Interface is.

Thanks Juan and Ellen,

If you look at the sensor from the outside of the boat, it is covered with fiberglas.
Can the new sensor be installed in the same way, place, or do we have to expose it?
Thanks,

We replaced the Interphase Probe with a B&G forward scan.
The hole for the transducer had to be enlarged as the B&G transducer is larger diamter than the Probe unit.
Good news is that the interconnecting cables are the same.
We ran the B&G cable attached to the transducer by the same route as the Interphase cable and behind the nav station it connects to an extension cable that runs to the ports side of the cockpit and the Interphase cable connectors are the same as the B&G , so that mkles it very easy to use the existing Interphase extension cable.
Good luck!

Bonjour Ofer,

I believe the best option is to replace it with a Simrad or B&G forward scan
Sensor that you install at the same location. It needs to be connected to an mfd B&G evo2 or higher.

I have installed it in 2019 and it extremely useful to avoid coral reefs.

Hallo,
On my Amel 54 #160, I have an interphase forward looking sonar.
Anyone went with the process of replacing it with a newer model, and can tell about it?
wires, sensors need to be changed?

Warm regards to all,

Hello,
I had a phone call to AMEL and pochon, no documents.
As I remember the B&G manual or somewhere it was said the minimum distance to other sensors was 60cm.
My depth sensor was a bit forward from the keel, so I installed about 60cm forward from there.

I think I had the 10m version and had to cut the plug to bring it back to the Vulcan in the cockpit though the cable tubing.
So I cut  it and installed a waterproof box for reconnection inside the boat. I used about 50cm or a so from the box to the outside vulcan.

Hello to the group and thankyou for your help.

Oliver, could you please send me the instructions from Pochon ?
I think my normal  Echo-Transducer is only 10 cm away from the place you installed  your forward-scan. I think you measured the position forward to the bow from the  Echo-Transducer with how many  cm ?
Thank you for your help !

Hi.
I installed the forwardscan acording to Pochon at this place shown in the Video.
The more you go forward the more interference by airbubbles from the bow YouTube get.
I hat no interference with the speedsensor or deapth sensor.

Dear,
when hauling out  and making new antfouling this year I would like to install the B&G Forwardscan-sensor connected to B&G Vulcan 9, which is my additional plotter for Navionics-map in the cockpit- Furuno MFD12 is still  workinggood  with c-map.
There is a  youtube by SV VELA NAUTICA about this theme , but I think the forwardscansensor would be to near  to the  airmar  echotransducer if I would  follow the same way described in the video.
I plan to  go 1 m = 3 ft from the airmar transducer to bow same middleline of the hull. The place should be in the cabinet of the port frontcabin.
Any help or suggestions ?

Hello Wolfgang
I installed the B&G Forward scan transducer in the same place as the old Probe one...centre line forward of the Airmar depth transducer.
I have an Airmar ultrasonic speed sensor also and they all function well, they don't interfere with each otrher as they operate on different frequencies.
Good luck

Hallo Wolfgang, I installed the Echopilot FLS 2D sonar a couple of years ago on my boat.  After much discussion with Amel and Airmar and Echopilot and receiving inconsistent advice, I installed my sensor for the Echopilot on the center line but aft of the Airmar speed sensor - about 50 cm aft.  The sonar works great - much better than I thought even at 4 knots of boat speed.  I was concerned about interference but found out that the frequencies for the Airmar and the Echopilot sensors were totally different so no problem.  And since the Airmar is flush, it creates no turbulence for the sonar sensor.  I would suggest you check the same thing for the B&G transducer.   Cheers Joerg

I mounted mine there too. But I had to connect it directly to my plotter. That means a long cable. At that time they only had them just in 10m long. So I had to buy 20 m
So find out if you can fit it into the NEMA network. I think Not.
