A54 ER insulation

Ruslan Osmonov

Hi everyone, I found that one of the insulation panels is falling off and needs to be glued back to fiberglass. Does anyone have a recommendation for a glue (brand/type) to use in this kind of application?
You can see on a picture how one piece is no longer attached and just hanging there.

Contact adhesive I recommend using the best contact glue you can buy. In my experience, it is 3M™ Hi-Strength 90 Contact Adhesive
Follow the instructions carefully

Regarding the black film, several owners have had good luck with Flex Seal Liquid Rubber:

Hello to all,

excellent help, bill, thanks a lot!

I did not find the 3m Flex Seal Liquid black in Europe / Germany. Product seem to be non-existing here in Europe.

Does anybody know a source for purchasing, please?

All the best

Thank you Bill! Much appreciated!

Did anyone do the flex seal paint? Can you share your experience and possibly photos? Seems like a job for Tom Cruise 🙂

hi ruslan

there is another post here about this issue:

https://amelyachtowners.groups.io/g/main/topic/30439945#59807

i used "plasti dip" spray and was very happy with the results.

Hi Lior, thanks for the info. Did you disassemble part from the wall or tape masked and tried to go around?
My thinking at the moment is that ER needs to be covered and taped with plastic covers to avoid potential mis spray or drips. What was your experience?

dear ruslan,

yes, that is exactly what i did. i took out all the black tape that was loose, than i covered the ER with a thin plastic sheet that i bought in a paint shop and sprayed three times each area. today, after 1.5 years, it still looks very good.

i am believe that the "flex seal" could also be a good solution. it was just easier for me to find the "plasti dip".

best,
lior

Hi all,

I’ve been following this thread with interest as I have all the issues discussed. The potentially awkward one in the insulation above the water maker and exhaust outlet areas having become almost completely detached from the overhead. There is no easy way to get behind it to apply adhesive without having to remove mounting brackets etc. My thought was to slit the insulation in order to access behind it and apply some spray on type of adhesive assuming something like this exists. Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

Cheers,

Paul
