Autoprop H6 - grease coming out between blades & hub

Neil Meyrick

I'm currently hauled out and just greased my bruntons auto prop H6 with marine trailer axel grease as recommended by bruntons. I followed their instructions to remove the screws and apply grease using the special fitting, but as well as grease coming out of the purge hole in the middle blade, some grease has come out of the back of the blade between the blade and the hub.

All three blades were well greased, and the whole prop was returned to Bruntons for a full rebuild only a little over a year / approx 300 hours of motoring ago. I don't know if this is normal and something not to worry about, or if it represents a problem. I understand that there are seals between the blades and the hub to prevent water getting into the blade and keep the grease in.

Any insights to this would be  much appreaciated

Thanks
Neil

Normal. Grease will come out there

Thank you Bill! I do wish manufacturers would tell you things like this, there was no mention of it on the Bruntons videos!

Hi Neil, I understand your concern. Yes there is a seal there. I have twice overhauled mine. Bruntons instructions say the grease coning out there is not an issue. Since you had them overhaul it so recently I wouldn't worry about it
