Good morning,
I started the generator this morning and discovered that it ran fine but was not putting AC power out. I tried both battery chargers, ac units and still nothing. Green AC light does not illuminate with the generator running. No warning codes on the generator start panel or generator. I double checked and reset all of the breaker switches both on and off of the generator unit to make sure none were tripped-all good. Started again and no power.
Right before we lost the AC power, my wife said he smelled a slight "burning smell" coming from the aft cabin. i immediately checked the engine room and did confirm a very trace, light burnt plastic type smell in the air.
I've researched most of the extensive posts here on the forum, Bill's book and the Cummins service manual for an idea on troubleshooting.
I read a bunch of post concerning the PCB board and appears to be a common point of failure. Our generator is around a 2013 with 1500 hrs on it. I'm not sure the PCB issue is specific to older models or all?
Does anyone have a step by step written procedure that I can follow to analyze and troubleshoot my generator or more specifically PCB to determine my exact problem?
If the PCB is deemed bad, has anyone ordered one lately and has the supply chain issue been resolved?
Thanks again for your assistance.

I assume that the main breaker on the aft side of the generator is ON. | CW Bill Rouse Amel Owners Yacht School | | | 720 Winnie, Galveston Island, Texas 77550

Kevin,
You mention the Onan service manual. Did you run through the "No AC Output" flowchart in the troubleshooting section? It is a bit down in the weeds, but be sure you have eliminated all the more common (and less expensive!) issues before you go hunting down a new main board. (And, yes the first step in the flow chart is to "Check the load circuit breaker").
If it does come down to the main board, I know some of these boards are getting hard to source. If you need one and can't find it, let me know, we have a source who MIGHT have some used ones kicking around.

Guys, I started with all of the circuit breakers, none had tripped. I reset all before starting generator no change. I went through my Service Manual (see below) and the checklist. The checklist was very brief. Does someone have a better checklist. -- Kevin & Kristen Schmit KIANA SM #362

Ahhh… yes that’s the OWNER’S manual. Kind of useless when things go wrong! The SERVICE manual is a much more complete (and intimidating!) document. The is a copy of ours located in the files section of this forum, and others with newer version have them there as well.. If your model is not covered in any of those documents, google might be able to steer you to the exact one for your machine. I belive that you need an electrician before trying shore power or generator power again.
If I remember your SM correctly it is equipped with an Amel-installed 110v Tansformer which has this selection box. There have been issues with the wiring inside these boxes
Also, the output from your generator goes to the Solenoid Shore/Generator Switch.
There have been issues with the wiring with this solenoid inside the box labeled QUAI | CW Bill Rouse Amel Owners Yacht School | | | 720 Winnie, Galveston Island, Texas 77550

This is what the inside of the Transformer Selection Box could look like: | CW Bill Rouse Amel Owners Yacht School | | | 720 Winnie, Galveston Island, Texas 77550

This same symptom happened to me. I opened the top of the Genset and followed the wire from the main breaker all the way out. Where it had been spliced, it had burned through. Its basically in the area behind the K3 and K4 relays. Easy to check this first before you go crazy with the other possibilities.

If this were on my
boat, I think the first thing I would do is locate the source
of the problem. Is the genset actually putting out power or
not? If it is, what lies between the genset and the item you
are trying got run. Follow the power. If it isn't, you know
you need to trouble shoot the genset, and only the genset.
