Dessalator not working

Paul Dowd and Sharon Brown

Hi all,

After finally getting my 100 duo back up with new membranes, I tested it out this morning and it seemed to be working fine, and making water, although erratically, which I put down to needing a new pre-filter. I changed the filter for a new 5 micron cartridge, and re-started it. I now have a problem in that when I increase the pressure nothing at all happens, it starts to flash the red alarm light (and orange at the same time), then shuts down after a short time. When I increased the pressure I did hear a bit of the characteristic hiss when the pressure increases, but only a little bit, the gauge shows nothing, and I do not hear the usual change in the pump sound as if it’s not really under any pressure.

Could this be possibly a faulty pressure valve? Any other clues would be most welcome. I hope to get the issue sorted out soon otherwise I’ll be having to flush pure water thorough the membranes.

Cheers,

Paul

Paul,

I am guessing that you got air in the very small line from the high-pressure pump manifold to the control panel. It is possible that you got enough air to overwhelm the high-pressure pump.

Run it with the pressure valve all the way counter clockwise for 10 minutes.

then slowly increase the pressure.

I'll send more in a few minutes

Paul,

Most likely you have air in the High-pressure Pump intake manifold. This is where the very small line is attached that goes to the Low-Pressure Gauge (if installed).

In the future when changing pre-filters, follow this procedure.

Solution to your current issue:
If you turn the pressure valve all the way clockwise should never be done. You do not want to do this because it will close the seawater output completely. Dessalator designed a High-pressure safety sensor that if working correctly and has not been tampered with, will turn the system OFF to prevent damage.

The best way to get all of the air out is to run the system with zero pressure for about 10-15 minutes, then slowly increase the pressure until you see water in the flow meter. At that point gauge(s) should work.

If the gauge(s) do not work, it is likely the small line from the input manifold is clogged. I have an Amel Book Supplement Procedure for that...email me.
