Modified or Revised SM Bow Thruster Attachment

George Green

I have just completed a routine maintenance on my bowthruster  on my SM no 434.
All the literature and, both good and indifferent, You tube videos shows the attachment of the bowthruster vertical shaft to the motor steel base via 4 off M8 Allen  bolts, radially placed around .
You will note from my two photos that mine is completely different.
Attachment is made via two ,front inserting, long M10 bolts ,with three quarters of the length,  machined down to about an M8 unthreaded pin. The motor steel base is drilled and threaded at the front to take the M10 bolts and clear drilled at the rear for the M8 pin . The  bowthruster shaft is  very precisely drilled  to take the through pin section.
Assembly and disassembly is straightforward,  except the usual re assembly relocation ritual, which is probably easier with this setup.
I pass this on for what it is worth. I am sure there are those among us who know this mod very well,,but it was novel to me at least

George,

Amel made the 2-bolt modification with about hull 405. It was a great improvement.
Have some more of these made...you will need them:
