Rocna anchor for Sharki

Malcolm Matalka

Hello!

I'm looking to put a Rocna on my Sharki. Anyone else rocking a Rocna?  How big of one could you fit on?  Any pictures?

Thank you, i apologize for the shortness of sentences, I'm on my phone.

Hi Malcom, on my Sharki I have a Rocna 20 kg and is fit perfectly.  The 25kg one is definitely bigger and I'm afraid it doesn't fit so well.
Also consider that the 20kg Rocna with a 10mm chain has a really superior holding power to traditional anchors and frankly I don't feel the need for a heavier anchor.

Hi Malcolm,

My two cents:

On Frangipane (Sharki #16) we have a Plastimo Kobra 2 anchor, 25 kg. It fits fine on the bow. We have anchored just once with this anchor, so not much experience with this combination. On our previous boat, an Amel Kirk, we used a kobra 20 kg (a bit heavy for a 5 tons boat) and it anchored like a dream. We bought it as several tests claim it gives the most bang for your buck. It never failed us. We once anchored at Isla Cies in Spain when the wind increased to F6, while we were on shore. Our boat didn’t move an inch while other dragged their anchors. Use plenty of chain. It is the weight under water that counts.

One more advantage: the Kobra is made by Plastimo, a French company. I guess it should be available on Martinique. And it doesn’t break the bank.

Groeten, Bart.

Hi Malcolm,
On Sea Hobo we have a 27kg Manson Supreme which has been reliable and fits well. I anchored safely in F7 in Coarse sand on the Scilly Isles and have been caught sleeping when an off shore breeze turned into an on shore F6 with waves to match in North Bay Wexford, Eire. Solid both times. Can send photos if you like.

On Hanoah, Sharki #127, I use the Rocna 33kg with 200 ft 3/8 BBB chain spliced to 200 ft of 3/4" New England 8 braid.  My snubber is also 3/4" 8 braid.  I've used this set up for about 50,000 nms.

Malcolm Matalka

Did you need to do any adjustments to be able to fit the Rocna on there?

The Rocna 33kg fits on my Sharki, no problem. No modifications.  I can send a photo if it would be helpful.  Roger

Malcolm Matalka

That would be great, of love to see how it fits.  Thanks again!
