Sharki Windlass
Malcolm Matalka
Hello! I'm trying to get the windlass working in my Sharki. As far as i know it's the original. I see in the V Berth there are 3 wires coming from the windlass: brown, teal, yellow/green. They are disconnected from a wire array. On mine they are two blacks and 1 teal. I tried connecting teal to teal and the blacks randomly with no success. Not sure if there is another switch i should be looking for. Any suggestions? Thank you, i apologize if the description is not great, I'm not sure the best way to describe it. /Malcolm |

On the three wires from the motor: One goes to battery Negative. The other two connect to the "up/down" relays. If you apply Battery positive to one wire, it runs forward, and to the other wire it runs in reverse. On many boats Amel used the same wire they had for the AC shore power connection, hence the strange color code. On all the Amels I have looked at the teal wire is the negative and the others are forward and reverse. Which is which, varies.. But yours COULD be different...
You find ALL kinds of weird things on old boats. If I was betting the teal wire is the negative, and the two blacks are the positive wires one for forward and one for reverse. You'll have to figure out which is which yourself. If it doesn't work, you'll need to put a meter on it to figure out what wires are energized for forward and reverse. If it was disconnected, there might be a reason. Are you sure it works? |

As Bill says: All could be different for an old boat. Some pictures may help though:

The owner claimed it worked and the survey says it's it was in good working order. My thought was that they disconnected the wires before leaving the boat anchored for awhile just to prevent and chance of a short and the boat hauling it's own anchor out. I'm going to poke around today to see if i can find anything else. Thank you for the photos. As Bill says: All could be different for an old boat. Some pictures may help though: |

Hi Malcolm, See the attached Photo. It's not perfekt, but i think you can locate it on your Sharki. https://www.svb.de/de/lofrans-umpol-relaisbox-fuer-ankerwinden-2-4-polig.html I am not sure if its the exactly right one, because on my sharki there ist no option to reverse the windlass. |

Hi Malcolm, What Dirk says: our windlass only lifts the chain electrically (works for me). We bought our Sharki last year, with a functioning windlass. It stopped working the first time we anchored the boat. It turned out that the solenoid in the forepeak stopped working altogether. It worked for 42 years, so not bad at all. The old solenoid had a plastic housing with a rubber cap on top. You could push the cap with your thumb I guess to manually activate the solenoid, but it got stuck. I bought this one as a replacement: But haven't installed it yet. Fair winds, Bart. Op ma 6 mrt. 2023 15:52 schreef Dirk Möller <dirk.moeller@...>:
