Spare parts inventory

Hello, I am planning a 5 year sebbatical on my
SM. I would like to hear from other Amel owners as to
their spare parts inventory. Aside from the normal pump
rebuilt kits and electric motor rebuilt kits and belts
was there any item that you wish you had on board
that you did not. How extensive of a diesel engine
spare parts inventory do most of you carry. You input
would be appreciated.

Thank You

Vito

Vito,
We just finished a circumnavigation in a
couple of years. We found the following necessary as
spar parts:
Pumps, all - Engine raw water, Gen raw
water, Bilge, Air conditioner(s)(I am sure yours is
different from ours, we have 2 CruisAir units),
fresh(sweet) water. These all wore out and of course not at
convenient places. We did carry spares. We managed with our
bilge rebuild kit but for all the others we carried
spares. We sent Gen and Engine back for rebuild after
changing. they are now our spars.
Pop rivets(blind
rivets) for pole ends. check these as they tend to
disappear.
Bow thruster props, we carry at least 2.
Engine: other than pumps normal impellors, filters, etc.
Zincs for Gen engine.
Hot water heater: Zinc,
Change every 2 yrs.
Lines: Based on usage.

Hope this helps, it is what we can think of readily.

Hi Vito,
After five years, the spare parts I
would recommend are: Propeller shaft seals (need to
replace every 2 years), bow thruster props, light bulbs
for all lights (24V bulbs are harder to find than
12V), autopilot spare parts (my chain broke on the
wheel steering unit), low-stretch line for boom outhaul
(Amel uses Kevlar line, which breaks under bending
stress, replace with Spectra or Vectran), and the pumps
and anodes mentioned in Harmonie's e-mail. Most
everything else is available in most ports, or is not as
critical.
Regards, Roy
