Ours is working very well in Greece. 

in the Marina (surprising with all the masts)
 at anchor with boat swinging,
 under way in bumpy seas. 

Slows a bit in the rain, but still OK.

64 megabits UP and 8megabits DOWN aboard a Royal Caribbean cruise ship in the middle of the Gulf of Mexico. This ship was just converted to Starlink. BTW there are thousands of guests using the ship's wifi and Starlink connection. The above speed was to my individual device.

I had very good performance from West Palm Beach to Maine. In rough seas it once overheated and stopped working, but later it resumed working fine. Then used it all summer with no problem.

Hi Matt,
   I am getting ready to get a Starlink also for Galini (A54 #100).  The RV version I assume because the marine version is very expensive.  I have heard from others that one might want to drill a hole into the unit to deactivate the search motor while underway.  Also heard that changes countries while sailing may be an issue in telling Starlink each time you enter a new country?

Any advice on what to purchase and package you settled with would be appreciated.

it’s not totally installed yet. I’m going to move it from the starboard side to the outer side to avoid wiring through my propane locker and be closer to the chase that goes forward to the Nav station. I’m using a standard, all stainless steel fishing pole holder and a rubber plumbing pipe adapter. 

Also, we bought our SL in the US and brought it to Greece. It works fine. There is no address registered to an RV unit.

We bought the RV plan. The device is the same for the residential unit, but you can pause the RV plan. 

i bought all the hardware to drill the holes and disable the motors. Also to power the unit directly from 24 volts. I haven’t done this yet. Maybe this winter while we are wintering in Ragusa. 

We bought the SL in the US and brought it to Greece. It works fine so far. Just turned out on and Voilà!

I bought as well the RV unit in France and test it there. It does work perfectly.
I brought it in French Polynesia but it seems this part of the world is not yet covered. Starlink mention it should be working in 2023. I look forward to it.
I am interested on the best way to install it on board.
What do you mean by disabling the motors? 
I have not seen 24v equipments from Starlink ?

Many people have disabled the motors, operating the dish in a flat position. Supposedly, this reduces drop outs and doesn’t affect signal strength. 

Join the Starlink for Boats Facebook group. Also Starlink Hacks. 

There are discussions and detailed instructions and YouTube videos that describe the modification in detail, including running the device from the house bank.

So for those that are installing it, where did you make the entry into the boat, and secondly what cable gland or sealing solution did you use to make a water tight connection through the hull? (That starlink connector is pretty bulky).

Hi Arlo

We used connectors from Garmin. Apparently often used for connecting radar cables, which also use power over Ethernet. See photos attached. Very neat, enabling a socket at the helm for a water resistant plug and short cable to dish (can easily be removed). Our electrician, whom we know well and came out for the uk for a bunch of our jobs onboard, said the Starlink cable was extremely fiddly to work with, with the gland. 

Incidentally, we’re in Gran Canaria and whilst Starlink is not listed for availability of service, its currently giving us over 200 mbps download speeds!

First results from MALTA:

During some time I move the antenna to find a better place and then I have little interruptions

But 12 hours working  - 33 aec OFF ?!....... not bad

Installation completed 3 days ago. RV.
Original cable passed from saloon to rear arc along the standard cabling routs.
No new holes made except the hole in the arc to get out and hole in the saloon to get in.
Works great regardless the big mountain next to marina (Spain).


And 2 more specials:
1. The installation is 100% ready for upgrade to HP RV without any re-cabling
2. The power supply connection permits to choose between pure shore power source or pure inverter power source.

hi Matt,
   I have looked into the powering with 24v option, several possibilities but no one best solution.  Has anyone actually done this and can provide details on what to buy and how to install?  Did you choose step-down transformer of 220v - 110v, or high wattage inverter, or separate power supply for the 24v - 48v (needed by the Starlink) to use POE?
